The group tax manager will proactively assist the group financial controller in ensuring best practice statutory compliance for all companies in the Karro group structure.

Key responsibilities:
  • Preparation and review of all Karro statutory accounts, liaising externally and internally as appropriate
  • Supporting the group financial controller in assessing the impact of technical accounting changes
  • One direct report
  • Partnering with the business to help them understand the impact of any accounting changes and their role in maintaining tax compliance
  • Review of corporation tax and deferred tax calculations and returns as prepared by external advisors, including R&D tax credit claims
  • Own the process for overseas tax compliance liaising with locally appointed specialist agents as necessary
  • Own VAT and Intrastat for the Group, ensuring returns are accurate and appropriate payments are made
  • Take ownership of the process for Senior Accounting Officer compliance, ensuring appropriate documentation is kept, risk reviews are performed and appropriate payments are made
  • Ensure the Karro Tax Policy is fit for purpose and signed off annually by the Board.
  • Liaise with HMRC on visits/audits/submissions
  • Liaise with external advisors where appropriate to provide tax advice and planning for the business, as required
  • Drive process improvements
  • Ad hoc tax-related projects

Skills and experience:
  • ACA and post qualification experience (either gained from an accounting firm background or in industry)
  • Excellent technical accounting skills
  • Strong commercial exposure and business acumen
  • Continuously strives for improvement
  • Appreciates the concept of materiality together with the benefit of detail
  • Competent in driving and influencing internal company teams to mitigate risk
  • Possesses a pro-active "can-do" attitude and demonstrates initiative, whilst maximising opportunities for improvement in the business
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships rapidly with colleagues
  • Seeks and develops new relationships that will support the wider finance function
  • Maintain a level of objectivity and an unbiased approach whilst displaying integrity at all times
  • Excellent communicator (both written and in verbal form) with an ability to a tailor and adapt communications for a wide variety of audiences (including Board level) and situations
  • Flexible, yet able to consistently meet deadlines and remain motivated and focused on delivery
  • Ability to work proactively both independently, or as part of a team
  • Able to liaise with the senior management team on behalf of the Group Financial Controller, where appropriate
  • Able to provide appropriate solutions to problems
  • Proven experience of strategic decision making
