  • Salary- £54,231- £88,126 a year (dependent on skills and experience) based on a 35 hour week, permanent contract

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Finance Manager to join our Financial Reporting team. The successful applicant will manage the delivery of Nationwide's group and subsidiary financial statements, and will support wider activities within the Financial Reporting team.

The Financial Reporting team sits at the heart of Nationwide's internal and external reporting and is accountable for Nationwide's statutory and regulatory financial reporting. The team ensures all reporting is compliant with regulations, accounting standards and best practice as well as developing accounting policies and providing specialist technical accounting advice on a range of issues.

Our team comprises individuals with a wide range of experiences who are building processes and capability to meet current and future requirements. A key and high-profile deliverable owned by the team is Nationwide's Annual Report & Accounts. We continually seek to deliver high standards of reporting and in 2018 were awarded PwC's Building Public Trust Award for Reporting in Private Business, demonstrating our success and commitment to quality reporting. The team works collaboratively across the whole of finance and with the wider business to develop what we do and ensure both processes and outputs reflect best practice. The team also manages the statutory audit process and the relationship with the external auditors.

As a senior member of the Financial Reporting team, this role will include managing a team, as well as being involved in wider team delivery and initiatives. This wider role will provide the opportunity to collaborate widely and develop solutions for new business or reporting requirements.

Who we're looking for

As a minimum requirement you'll:
  • Be a qualified accountant with a minimum 5 years PQE.
  • Have a strong background in financial reporting under IFRS, with experience in audit practice or in a large, corporate environment, preferably within financial services.
  • Have a focus on delivery and demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles and challenges in delivering on commitments.
  • Demonstrate excellent team leadership and organisational skills to manage multiple activities, including the delivery of a high volume of reporting to strict reporting timelines.
  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand and manage complex accounting and reporting activities.
  • Possess a drive for high quality and ability to maintain oversight of team outputs and establish appropriate review processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness of all deliverables.
  • Demonstrate highly effective stakeholder management skills, across all levels, within and outside of the organisation, and the ability to collaborate and drive activities across the wider business.
  • Evidence clear and effective communication and influencing skills.
  • Have strong team leadership and coaching skills to motivate and develop the team and its skills.

It would also be nice if you had:
  • Knowledge and experience of UK GAAP.
  • An appreciation and understanding of the Companies Act 2006 and UK Corporation Tax.

What you'll be doing

Accountabilities will include:
  • Managing and developing processes for the delivery of Nationwide's group and subsidiary financial statements, in line with internal and external requirements and timelines.
  • Implementing and managing control and governance processes to ensure high quality reporting that is appropriately reviewed and approved.
  • Identifying, evaluating and driving forward opportunities for improvements to key processes to deliver meaningful quality and efficiency benefits, prioritising resource to optimise benefits delivered.
  • Leading, developing and motivating a team of finance professionals to create a high performing team, ability to demonstrate agility in meeting changing reporting requirements and evolving business activities.
  • Contributing to wider departmental management and leadership activities and initiatives.
  • Supporting technical accounting and reporting developments.
  • Collaborating with the internal team and external auditors to support successful half year and full year reporting.
