DevOps Infrastructure Automation Engineer (Global Banking & Markets Technology) Big Bank Funding. FinTech Thinking. Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC's global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world's leading international bank. Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers. We work in small, agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world from our offices at the Bluefin Building in Southwark, our global headquarters in Canary Wharf, and multiple other locations around the UK including Sheffield, Leeds, Barnsley and Birmingham. Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 2019 and beyond, we are currently seeking a number of experienced DevOps Infrastructure Automation Engineers to join HSBC Technology. Business Area Overview Equities Technology is a global department with teams in London, Paris, New York, Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Pune - supporting businesses covering Cash and Electronic Trading, Delta One and Flow Trading, Equity Derivatives, Prime Finance and Futures. The organization is rapidly transforming both its people structure and ways of working to better align with our business and increase the speed and quality of delivery. We are adopting a DevOps model driving agile delivery and building a strong product ownership group. GBM DevOps Infra Automation Engineer The GBM DevOps Infra Automation Engineer will report in to the GBM Global Head of Infrastructure Practice. The DevOps Infra Automation Engineer is responsible/accountable for the following. Key Accountabilities Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the virtual team by automating manual tasks. Champion the use of Agile and DevOps principles/methodologies. Identify key blockers and play a lead role in the removal of blockers and hence facilitate the implemenation of tactical and strategic solutions accordingly. Face off/Influence central ITID teams to adapt/evolve/automate to meet GBM requirements and vice versa. Collaborate with peers in IT and HTS Partners, to ensure the delivery of goals for GBM with respect to the infrastructure automation aspects. Communicate and implement the GBM & ITID strategy to explain the benefits accordingly. Advise and guide the shaping of the infrastructure architecture which underpins the GBM business from an automation perspective. Work with the asset classes to maximise consistency and re-use of solutions across the GBM business we support Move towards a federated but governed model for as much Infrastructure work as we can whilst ensuring we meet standards accordingly Governance over compliance to Security Standards; Approval of membership to privileged access groups (GSDE, Build, HPSA and PAR). Governance of OAT and quality controls against standard baselines before go-live. Governance over critical patching and production of MI. Governance over technical interviews, assessments and certification for cross-training into Practice functional roles. Qualifications What you will bring to the role; To be successful in this role you should have proven experience within the Technology sector with knowledge of the following skills: Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications Essential Technical Experience Infrastructure Engineer / DevOps Engineer / SRE background Proficiency with scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc) Proven experience using infrastructure as code (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, etc) to automate deployment of enterprise infrastructure Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, TeamCity, etc) and methodology Must have substantial experience (10 years minimum) of UNIX including expert level knowledge of the RedHat 6.x/RH7.x platform (ideally on HP hardware & IBM Hardware) Exposure to Cloud Ecosystems (GCP, AWS) Expert level knowledge in all aspects of Systems Performance Good practical knowledge of Networks and network technologies Good understanding of the Linux kernel Provide Automation design and support for development projects Root cause analysis Proven experience in the build and configuration of new servers (virtual and physical) Bonus points for Proven experience in automating enterprise infrastructure and processes Experience as a hardware engineer responsible for the build of new servers and diagnosis of hardware faults Experience of working as an engineer on development projects with responsibility for all UNIX aspects Practical knowledge of database technologies e.g. Oracle RAC, Dataguard Ability to advise on and provide installation and configuration documents Experience of Vulnerability Management Good practical knowledge of SAN & NAS technologies Experience of developing utilities to automate repetitive tasks (i.e. reboots, restart services, failover etc) Understand those business parameters which could influence performance; e.g. data sizes, network bandwidth, scalability, etc. These roles will primarily be London site based at our Head Office in Canary Wharf Come Power a Business that Defines How to Power the World As a business operating in markets all around the world, we believe diversity brings benefits for our customers, our business and our people.
