Peabody has an opportunity for a Deputy Payroll Manager to join the team based in Pitsea. You will join us on a full time, fixed term basis of 6 months. In return, you will receive an hourly salary of £35,000 - £42,000 per annum.

The Deputy Payroll Manager role:

This role is a great opportunity for someone who has worked in a senior role in an organisation of significant size. The role will be pivotal to the delivery of a payroll function which has just been amalgamated following the merger of two large organisations. This will also involve a lot of business partnering to support the various departments in the business.

Key duties of our Deputy Payroll Manager:

- Oversee and support start to finish payroll processing including starters, leavers, salary changes, bonuses, pensions, employees loans, flexible benefits, union fees, court orders and any other ad hoc adjustments

- Support to the payroll team to deliver a responsive, approachable and high quality service

- Operate payroll procedures to ensure compliance and best practice is being utilised

- Checking of trial pay runs and exception reports, making amendments where necessary

- Assist the Payroll Manager with the reconciliation of the monthly payroll cycle and the preparation of reports for Director sign off

- Manage the payroll team in absence of the Payroll Manager

- Take responsibility for ensuring that all payroll costs are accounted for and reconciled in accordance with company policies and procedures

- Provide accurate and timely management information on all aspects of payroll

What we're looking for in our Deputy Payroll Manager:

- Successful experience of full cycle payroll processing, including data input, submission, report filing and reconciliation using a payroll software package

- Ability to produce manual payroll calculations with sound knowledge of tax and NI and other associated statutory deductions

- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of pension scheme legislation and the operation of auto enrolment

- Previous experience of supervising a payroll team

- Experience of liaising with HMRC, internal and external auditors and other relevant third party providers

- Good understanding of payroll accounting and how payroll interfaces with financial systems

- Proficient in the use of Microsoft excel - v-lookups, pivot tables

- Proven attention to detail and ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously

- Ability to work independently, exercising good initiative and judgement

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver excellent customer service

- Previous experience of Core HR/ResourceLink an advantage
