Software Engineering Lead - Cirium - Sutton

We are currently looking for a Development Team Leader to join our Cirium tech group to help build and enhance the end-to-end stack that allows our customers to query and analyse vast amounts of aerospace data.This fast-growing tech group is responsible for a wide variety of tasks on our analytics platform. The analyser suite is a complete data analysis platform designed for customers in insurance, airline, banking and a substantial number of airline related industries.

What you'll be doing day to day:
  • Work closely with the Data Acquisition / Tooling Team to analyse and conceptualize the design of products and requirements.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in leading technology resources to solve complex business needs.
  • Ability to leverage technical metrics to drive effective team decisions.
  • Knowledge of architectural and software design principals.
  • Proven ability to lead test-driven software development and maintenance.
  • Experience with code reviews and software development using Agile methodologies.
  • Proven ability to adapt to new roles and responsibilities.
  • Excellent skills in setting, communicating, implementing, and achieving business objectives and goals through the direct management of others.
  • Ability to manage teams through vague requirements and help turn them into deliverables.Set clear priorities and establish timelines and milestones for the team to achieve Company initiatives.
  • Excellent project planning, time management plus change and risk mitigation skills across multiple functional groups.
  • Excellent problem-solving experience and identifying, researching and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex project issues; prior success extracting/translating findings into alternatives/solutions; and identifying risks/impacts and adjustments to facilitate management decision-making.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills applicable to a wide audience including senior and executive management, customers, etc., including diction/terminology and presenting information in a concise and effective manner to clients, management and various organizations using assorted communication mediums.
  • Superior collaboration skills and experience.
  • Install, troubleshoot and support a variety of software products and services that product features are built upon and developed against.
  • Ability to troubleshoot performance, capacity, and scalability issues.
  • Seek diverse ideas and perspectives from a variety of sources to create better solutions, products and services.
  • Carry out people management responsibilities for your direct reports in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and applicable laws.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, mentoring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensure all reports are provided with the training and resources needed to perform their jobs to the most outstanding degree possible.Ensure reports are provided with frequent feedback and coaching, including regular one-on-one sessions, in order to meet and exceed individual and team performance goals consistently.
  • Manage and encourage new ideas from engineers and others to foster improvements through innovation.
  • Empower engineers to be accountable and responsible for their own actions and decisions.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, math or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrable commercial software development experience.
  • Experience managing people, teams and projects
  • Experience with developing highly concurrent, scalable applications.
  • Experience in full-stack development using C#, Java, Node.js, as well as Javascript Frameworks such as React or Angular.js.
  • Experience developing REST-like, JSON-based micro services.
  • Familiarity with Amazon cloud-based services and the Linux operating system (desirable).

What we're looking for:
  • Hands-on experience with some of the software stack, languages and tools currently used by engineering teams around Cirium - SQL, React, R, Python, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS cloud-based microservice models, Git, etc.
  • Professional and/or specialized coding skills.
  • Experience in DevOps-type tooling and processes.
  • Professional experience with Data Analytics.
  • Past experience in the aviation and/or travel industries.
