Retail Sales Director

Double TWO, Britain's finest Shirt maker and famous for creating the original "Shirt with two detachable collars", was established in 1940. Whilst remaining a family owned business Double TWO continue to sell men's and ladies formal shirts and leisurewear via their stores, online and through their wholesale division, as well as offering corporate wear through their Wm. Sugden's Division.

The company is entering an exciting period of change and are now looking to recruit an experienced Retail Professional to head up the Retail Division.

The purpose of the role is to ensure the smooth and effective running of a profitable, multisite retail operation.

Reporting direct to the Chairman the successful applicant will be responsible for the strategic development of the Retail Division through identification of long and short term goals and objectives for themselves, the retail team at head office, and the stores, to align with company goals and objectives.


You will be responsible for focussing on the sales and profitability of the stores and identifying other opportunities within the market. You will oversee a sales team across a network of stores and be responsible overall for motivating and inspiring the whole of the retail team.

Sales & Marketing

You will be required to set all KPI's for retail staff and stores, monitoring sales/progress against KPI targets. You will also be required to work on overhead reduction to increase profitability.

You will be responsible for the delivery of marketing and promotional activity across the sites to an agreed plan, working closely with stores on local marketing activity, remaining aware of competitors and market trends and reacting where appropriate

You will be required to maintain and develop good working relationships with both internal customers, particularly purchasing for stock levels, and independent site landlords, updating leases as required.

Store Appraisals/Communication

Review store performance on a monthly basis, providing guidance in all areas. Conduct Bi-annual site and store manager reviews, conducting quarterly visits and full appraisal as a minimum for each store.


Develop new and exciting ways to train and motivate store managers, monitor their delivery to the rest of their teams.

You will be responsible for maintaining your own level of CPD as well as across store staff

Admin, Systems, Procedures and Recruitment

You will be required to update and ensure procedures are adhered to across all sites. Working closely with HR on store rotas, holidays and general store staff welfare issues and Health & Safety. Complete all administration as required/appropriate.

Deal with store related customer complaints

Stock and Security

Ensure all aspects of store security systems are adhered to and effective

Additional Tasks

Complete projects and tasks assigned by the Chairman. Look at growth opportunities within existing stores and new stores portfolio

The successful applicant must have the following skills and abilities:

  • Good IT, Budget and Report writing skills
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure

  • Previous Retail experience
  • Smart, well groomed, and professional appearance
  • Ability to delegate tasks and communicate confidently with staff and members of the public
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within the business

  • Full UK driving licence

You must be able to adapt to changing deadlines/priorities and workloads. The ability and willingness to travel is essential in order to fulfil the requirements of the role, this can include weekends and bank holidays if necessary.
