Job Title: Technical Support Engineer

Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Salary: £30K - £44K DOE + Benefits

Introduction:
Do you have an IT/Telecommunications engineering background and hold experience of SNMP management systems? Would you like to work for an established company who have a reputation for strong technical capability and are on the verge of expansion? My client currently has an opening for a Technical Support Engineer at their site in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

SALARY £30,000 - £44,000 DEPENDANT ON LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE, EMPLOYER CONTRIBUTORY PENSION SCHEME, LAPTOP, SCOPE FOR PROGRESSION & TRAINING.

Technical Support Engineer Responsibilities:
- Provide telephone and email support, responding to requests for assistance and support for a wide range of SNMP based network management systems (PDH, SDH, Ethernet/IP, GPON, DWDM, devices, servers, printers, hubs, routers and wireless-based networking equipment).
- Prepare and test telecoms equipment for client order using test equipment.
- Travel to client's site on an occasional basis.
- Ensure support calls are logged, updated and followed through to resolution.
- Carry out day to day maintenance, administration and support on all computer/server systems.
- Undertake an on-call rota (One week on, three weeks off), providing email and telephone support with occasional site visits.

Technical Support Engineer Applicant Requirements:
- Ideally educated to HNC level or above in Telecommunications or another relevant discipline.
- Good understanding of Ethernet (MPLS and MPLS-TP), PDH and SDH technologies.
- Use of test equipment including oscilloscopes, optical power meters, light sources, frequency counters BERT's, cellular scanners and multi-meters.
- Basic understanding of SNMP management systems (Linux, Solaris and Windows servers), with specialist knowledge in at least one of these areas.
- Ability to manage fault tickets from beginning to conclusion.
- Prepared to obtain Security Clearance.
