Senior Data Engineer

Looking for an experienced and professional Data Engineer to work with technology colleagues to develop the right technology suite for data science, consistent with the technology strategy as well as work with the technology team to implement these technologies, and develop approaches to their use, working with a myriad of data sources, and identifying onward linking and understanding of these data

To succeed in this Senior Data Engineer role, you'll be an experienced data engineer, having used a range of technologies that support advanced analytics (big data storage and design, distributed computing, open source software components, etc.), and advanced workflow and orchestration tools in statistical or analytic production, as well as using statistical computer languages. You will thrive working in a fast-paced, output-driven organisation. You will be instrumental in the development and integration of new technologies and data sources.

Person specification:

·At least three years' strong experience of data analytic technologies and languages.

·Strong experience of many of Git, AWS, Docker, YAML, Apache NiFi, Apache Spark, H2O.ai, R, and Python.

·Advanced knowledge of statistical software, and programming expertise across analysis methods, data creation, data linking, and analytical reporting.

·Strong professional and ethical judgement in choosing methods that give rapid, high quality, actionable results.

·Ability to embrace and drive change, with a proactive attitude.

·Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a numerate discipline, such as computer science, operational research, data science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.

·A passion to help people understand and progress to higher education.

Key duties and responsibilities:

·Work with technology colleagues to develop the right technology suite for data science, consistent with technology strategy.

·Work with the technology team to implement these technologies, and develop our approaches to their use, working with a myriad of data sources, and identifying onward linking and understanding of these data.

·Work with technology on the adoption of data warehousing technologies, and facilitate integration of existing data and processes to maintain existing outputs.

·Work with colleagues in the directorate to develop best practice, and see that this is adopted.

·Act as a role model to the department and organisation, upholding Analysis and Insights' culture and standards, and demonstrating values.

·Work to develop and maintain a close relationship between Analysis and Insights and the technology function, to ensure our data can be used in a joined up way across the business.

Accountabilities:

·Take part in developing relevant training and mentoring for colleagues across the organisation, to maximise value we create from data.

·Accountable for the running of Analysis and Insights' technology facilities and data estate, as part of a small team of data scientists.

·Represent Analysis and Insights at internal and external meetings, where required.
