Day Machinist

We are looking for a day machinist to work for our world wide raw material business in Port Talbot. The position exists to provide specialist machinist support as required. The pay for this position is £13.42 on a 40 hour week and with 41 days holiday.

The Role

The jobholder will be responsible for carrying out the machining of various sized components to a high degree of tolerance and high specifications using all machine shop based equipment and techniques including centre lathes, horizontal borers, milling machines, elga mills, pillar drills, vertical borers, grinding. Materials used all ranges of steels, alloys, brass and cast irons.

Role responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

* You must be able to understand engineering drawings in order to machine items to required tolerances. With the ability to check and measure own work and work to all ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 criteria.

* Utilise Fork lift truck driving, slinging/rigging and operation of overhead cranes if licensed to complete work movements in a safe organised manner

Requirements / Personal Specification

* The jobholder must be a time served indentured mechanical craftsman

* NVQ level 3 qualification in mechanical engineering

* Write risk assessments and safe working procedures before carrying out tasks.

* Candidates should be experienced in the manual operation of lathes, boring, grinding and milling machines. Experience in operating CNC machines is advantageous

* Be capable of interpreting technical drawings and standards,

* Advantageous to drive large overhead gantry cranes

* Advantageous to drive forklift trucks from 1.8 tonne to 12 tonne
