Kent Fire & Rescue Service is seeking to recruit a Financial Services Support Officer to join the Finance Team based in Tovil. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and you will receive a competitive salary of £21,623 - £28,896 per annum.

The Financial Services Support Officer role is wide and varied and provides an excellent opportunity to be involved with a range of finance activities such as: providing support and challenge to budget managers, monitoring of capital and revenue spend, assistance with year-end closedown, statutory returns, day to day use of the Business World finance system, payroll validation and insurance activity.

Key responsibilities as our Financial Services Support Officer:

- Provide financial support and advice to budget managers to assist them with effective planning and control of their specific budgets, ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations

- Assist budget managers in the monitoring of their budgets and updating forecast outturns

- Assist in the development and preparation of the Budget and Medium Term financial plan liaising with Budget Managers as necessary

- Carry out bank and control account reconciliations to minimise the risk of fraud, ensure compliance with KFRS Treasury Strategy and to maintain the integrity of the financial system

- Assist in the closure of the Authority's accounts to the agreed timetable, ensuring that for the designated areas of activity, working papers are produced ready for audit. This will include involvement in preparing year end accruals, analysis of significant variances, and preparing the appropriate information for the disclosure notes in the final accounts

- Keep updated the insurance requirements on behalf of the Authority, pursuing claims and liaising with insurers as necessary and providing support and advice to colleagues across the Authority

- Assist in the production of financial information to be published on the Authority's website and the completion of Government or other returns and statistics

What we're looking for in ourFinancial Services Support Officer:

- Fundamental awareness of accounting basics including year-end closedown processes

- Fundamental awareness of budget management arrangements in a devolved budget environment

- At least three years accounting and budgeting experience

- Experience in the use of financial information systems and uses of code structures for reporting purposes

- Accounting Technician or equivalent
