The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the team of Project Managers in the delivery of capital projects portfolio. Working with the Project Manager and alongside other team members and functional stakeholders, the role holder will help to ensure that the allocated projects are delivered in accordance with the agreed objectives on time, within budget and with zero incidents

Key responsibilities

EHS and Compliance
  • To ensure that all projects are delivered safely, meeting all internal and external EHS compliance standards. To ensure that all project team members always comply with EHS rules and expectations during all stages of the project delivery process.
  • To ensure projects, in both the proposal and execution stages, comply fully with EU, UK and any other applicable legislation.
  • To follow Group project management procedures and guidelines.

Leadership and People
  • There are no direct reports for this role but you will be responsible for managing a number of engineering consultants and site delivery contracts as well.

Planning and Financial

The Project Engineer will support sub tasks to aid the Project Manager working with the projects team Senior QS, procurement team, finance team and legal to select and define the best delivery method to ensure the below:
  • All contracts proposed and entered into related to your allocated projects give sufficient protection to JM.
  • The spend of allocated CAPEX funds occurs within the fiscal period and within budget.
  • That any potential overspend against budget is approved before the spend is incurred according to group and business control procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate schedule and financial reports.

Project Delivery

The role requires the Project Engineer to act on JM's behalf and represent JM's interests in areas of safety and quality and regulatory compliance throughout project delivery. Supporting the Project Manager to ensuring the projects are commissioned and managed on time, to high quality standards, right first time and within the budget allocated. Ensuring high quality communication is maintained with the steering group and all stakeholders.

Including escalation to the Project Manager, Projects Team Lead, Department Manager or Project Steering forums as appropriate.

The Project Engineer will also be expected to contribute to the development of engineering standards that support project delivery.

Special factors
  • This role has single site responsibility, but you may be required to work occasionally from the Royston site for meeting etc
  • Occasional travel to suppliers/contractors for factory inspections and audits.
  • Non-smoker as this can negatively contribute to Platinum Salts Sensitisation
  • Although significant proportion of time will be office based and involve working with PC's, there will be a regular requirement to be on site at the project location. Some incidental physical activity may be required from time to time (climbing ladders to access platforms for example).

Ideal candidates will require the following skills -
  • Able to follow P&ID's
  • Qualified to degree level in Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience and other relevant qualification
  • Experience of delivering projects in high hazard operating environments
  • Familiar with Hazard study methodology and stages
