Due to the structured increase in growth our client is now seeking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer.


As part of the Engineering Resources team you will develop design skills and work to the departmental processes, team work and continual improvement. Apply sound engineering principles in the development and documentation of products. Provide a service to the Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Manufacturing departments. Collaboration with the STG group where assigned. Support other areas of the business with Mechanical Engineering skills when required through the correct escalation process.

  1. Design and development of prototype Opto Mechanical systems.
  2. Carry out initial prototype design of systems, using CAD and its complimentary software packages to predict performance.
  3. Conduct practical proof-of-concept design and testing when necessary.
  4. Communicate design needs and findings to team members to allow progression of design projects.
  5. Manage and scope investigations into form or function of a feature or set of features in a design.
  6. Creation and refinement of technical mechanical part and assembly drawings to capture design intent and document the key aspects necessary to accomplish the manufacturing goals of a project.
  7. Creation and refinement of complex mechanical components including technical advice on sourcing, volume models, and key performance parameters.
  8. Creation of communication documentation to help convey the key aspects of a design to a client or manufacturing partner.
  9. Creation and maintenance of design Bill of Materials for one or more projects.
  10. Data management and release process activities
  11. Identify any personal training needs to the Senior Mechanical Engineer
  12. Full understanding of G&H corporate strategy by market and product

  1. Full understanding and use of Solidworks
  2. Ability to understand/produce technical drawings
  3. Ability to co-ordinate with the other discipline Engineers (electronics and optics) within the department to produce multidisciplinary design solutions
  4. Able to report mechanical design status on the assigned tasks whenever asked
  5. Able to either answer all queries relating to the mechanical design or to field them to the relevant member of the department
  6. Collates cost data relating to the mechanical design
    Ensures the mechanical design functionally meets the users requirements
  7. Produces designs to specified deadlines and achieves the required timescales
  8. Sets an example to the other members of the mechanical design team on how to manage designs
  9. Confident, proactive character, ability to take the lead in challenging situations
  10. Good communication skills, dealing with other employees and external clients
  11. Good IT skills
  12. DFMEA, PFMEA, PDCA and RCA associated to design

Degree or HND/ HNC Mechanical Engineering with equivalent experience.
