In Vivo Scientist / Technician (Graduate, Drug Delivery, Home Office Licence)


£20k - £35k + benefits

Our client is an extremely well-funded medical devices start-up with the exciting technology for developing a new generation of ultrasound-based medical devices for drug delivery and surgical applications and providing on-screen feedback to the clinician as to where drug delivery or surgery is taking place in real time.

They now have a requirement for a flexible In VivoScientist keen to work in a hands-on, small-team environment and responsible for carrying out the in vivo experiments related to the company's drug delivery technology platform.

The company are undertaking their own and externally partnered studies to assess the benefit of their technology in delivering a range of therapeutic agents. As a member of the Development Team under direction from senior staff the employee will be responsible for:

Performing In Vivo Drug Delivery Experiments
  • Perform Home Office licensed procedures in accordance with Project licence and Home Office regulations.
  • Work with syngeneic and xenograft murine tumour models and administration methods including sub-cutaneous, intra-peritoneal and intravenous delivery.
  • Monitoring the condition of animals, recognising and resolving any problems.
  • Ensure compliance with the Home Office licence.

Recording & Reporting In Vivo Drug Delivery Experiments
  • Keep full and accurate records in accordance with Home Office regulations (including stock and breeding records and environmental records).

Additional Duties
  • Acquisition, processing and presentation of treatment efficacy metrics using various imaging modalities, qPCR, and tumour measurements.
  • There will be opportunity to learn new techniques relating to the use of proprietary ultrasound technology.
  • Contributing to the smooth running of the non-animal based research.

Skills & Experience
  • Perform licensed procedures according to project licence and Home Office regulations. Essential
  • Perform sub-cutaneous, intra-peritoneal and intravenous injections in mice. Essential
  • Implant and work with xenograft and syngeneic tumour models.
  • Work safely and effectively with small molecule drugs, antibodies and viruses.
  • Standard biological laboratory techniques, such as cell culture, plate reader-based assays.

Essential Personal Characteristics
  • Take a flexible approach to work and perform tasks outside of one's job description.
  • Be able to operate as a self-starter.
  • Apply excellent organizational skills.
  • Use Microsoft Office software.

  • A current Home Office personal licence, modules 1 - 3. Essential
  • A good degree in a scientific discipline. Desirable.
