Fitter & Tester Valves & Controls

Permanent position

Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 4.00pm

Friday 7.30am to 12.30pm

Flexibility essentially as you may be required to work shifts

We have a fantastic for an experienced fitter and tester to work with a global company based in Halifax.


To undertake Assembly, Testing, Instrumentation and associated tasks related to Valves & Controls to a high standard.


* Ideally HNC qualified.

* Previous experience of working in a Valves & Controls manufacturing environment.

* Proven experience of project and process development work desirable.

* Ideally WPS (Weir Production System) trained or prepared to undertake training.



• Establish the tasks required and how they should be carried out, which may involve the adaptation of existing methods and procedures.

• Maintain Health & Safety standards within area.

• Drive 6's standards in your area. Maintain paperwork for 6's Boards in area.

• Manages and updates matrices daily.

• Participates in both department projects and overall operations projects when required.

• Improves quality and eliminates errors. Improve customer satisfaction.

• Able to work as part of a team or under own initiative.

• Maintain operational logs for equipment as necessary.

• Lead or participate in "Lean" related activities to continually improve the operational effectiveness of the process and areas

• Teamwork - Lead by example and gain involvement from team in order to optimise area performance.

• Housekeeping- Ensure area is kept in "presentation" condition at all times.

• Complete in progress check sheet for all valves built

• Develop, maintain and adhere to SOP (Standard Operating Procedures).

• Help to define, diagnose and solve problems as part of a team using a logical and disciplined approach (i.e. 8D).

• To identify cost cutting activities with in the area.

• To be flexible and work in bottle neck areas within your skill level.

• To maintain a "can do" attitude.

• Experience and knowledge to be passed on to other Weir personal where appropriate.

• Check test equipment is fit for testing of valves and highlight any concerns.

• Hydro test body and seat, FE testing and vacuum testing of valves to procedures, this includes ASME procedures.

• Interface with customer or third party inspectors where required

• Input data on system for valves which have passed and failed test with reason code so information can be used for first time pass analysis.

• Ensure all work personally undertaken is carried out in compliance with current H&S rules and safety systems, and is in line with the requirements of the duty of care document.
