Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an experienced team of Mechanical Engineers. We are looking to grow our team to support some major new contracts and developments within our Electro-optical product range.
We are seeking a high calibre Senior Mechanical Engineer, with proven experience in all aspects of the Mechanical Engineering design lifecycle. This role will primarily be based at our offices in Essex. The successful candidate will perform mechanical engineering design in a professional manner, and provide technical engineering knowledge and solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Support senior members of staff in the delivery of technical solutions on critical business programmes to ensure delivery of mechanical engineering excellence.
Mechanical design and development using 3D CAD tools (ideally PTC Creo).
Provide support to critical technical problem investigations and deliver effective solutions.
Contribute to reviews of mechanical designs in accordance with business and industry standards.
Support Procurement and Manufacturing during the introduction of new product into the Development/Production lifecycle phase.
Build effective cross functional relationships within local site, across business.

Skills & Qualifications Required:

Technical or science degree qualified, or equivalent
Problem solving - structured, logical approach to investigate issues & problems
Experienced in owning tasks/small projects with minimal supervision
Detailed design - first-hand experience of engineering design, numerical calculations, tolerance studies, etc
Experience in designing for harsh environments (Land, Sea and Air), including EMC
Working knowledge of BS8888 and GD&T
Experienced in various aspects of DFM/A
Ownership - delivering products and associated key milestones
Effective communicator both verbally and in written form

MEng in Mechanical Engineering
'First pass' structural analysis to determine if a design is fit-for-purpose (ideally PTC Simulate or Siemens NX)
Appreciation of Thermal Analysis (ideally Ansys IcePak)
Experience in Mechanical Engineering for Electro-Optic systems
Knowledge of new Mechanical Engineering trends and advancing tools, techniques and technologies
