Summary of Role
Raytheon UK has an opportunity for an experienced Senior Principal Solutions Architect within the UK Information Technology function. The IT function is responsible for the design and delivery of IT services to all UK based divisions to successfully enable our expanding business and assure operational delivery of critical functions and services that are reliant on all aspects of technology.

A key role within IT, the Senior Principal Solutions Architect will have a proven background of developing, transforming and delivering enterprise-grade application solutions in a dynamic organisation. The Senior Principal Solutions Architect will work alongside key members of the business, as well as other experts in technology to define the RUK IT application solutions strategy. Your purpose will be to work closely with both business and technology teams to translate requirements into workable end to end solutions.

Main Duties

• Develop long term vision of application technologies and solutions.

• Develop and champion best practice application architecture principles and standards, ensuring that they are adhered to when creating solutions.

• Work closely with Raytheon Enterprise Architects and Global IT service representatives to integrate Enterprise application technology campaigns with UK IT services and solutions.

• Create complex technical designs and proof of concept solutions that maximize Raytheon investments and align with RUK and Corporate IT vision/strategy.

• Liaise with project teams to deliver technical design documents when creating solutions.

• Collaborate with CIO, Enterprise IT leaders and RUK IT colleagues to develop strategic application portfolio roadmaps.

• Ensures IT solutions are appropriate and that they maximise the use of existing capabilities and investments.

• Develop and maintain processes and procedures for the definition, communication and governance of solution design with the group.

• Responsible for working with delivery teams and technology vendors, where you will document and communicate technology solutions to fulfil the agreed business requirements.

• Responsible for IT application strategy and lifecycle management including oversight of strategy development for change and transformation programs.

• Act as mentor to junior members of the team, including those outside of the department where possible, to drive collective positive influence on career development across the division and company.

• Ensure regular risk reviews take place for your areas of responsibility and clear mitigation plans are maintained in order to de risk any potential issues and minimise impact or potential degradation to business operations.

• Ensure adherence to and improvement of processes and procedures relating to analysis, design, development, implementation, configuration and full life cycle management.

• Act as sponsor on major projects and programmes being delivered, ensuring the necessary delivery and governance processes are effectively met.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience within a similar role as a Solutions Architect, Solutions Designer or
Systems Integrator in a multi - technology environment.

• Deep knowledge of application design, development, testing and lifecycle management
across the full software development lifecycle.

• Extensive hands-on knowledge of advanced programming languages and platforms such
as but not limited to Visual Studio .NET, SharePoint 2013/2016, Domino, etc.

• Experience in defining application architectures for large organisations, and of demonstrating alignment between business objectives and the target application architecture.

• Demonstrated experience of working on complex and technical projects within solution designs and their standards and governance.

• Proven experience and understanding of designing and integrating IT solutions across a number of different technology platforms.

• Experience with strategy development for change and transformation programs as well as strategic applications roadmaps in complex IT environments.

• Deep knowledge of commercial application technologies, Digital solutions, the Microsoft stack, Traditional and web based application development, DevOps, Agile/Scrum development including design, delivery, implementation, troubleshooting, and operational management.

• Industry connected, with deep knowledge and a solid understanding of best practice, and up to date techniques used to provide compelling solutions that solve business problems around legacy applications, transformation, automation and user experience led design.

• Ability to learn complex systems and business processes and define requirements for solutions.

• Demonstrates clarity of thinking to work through limited information and vague problem definitions.

• Able to work well with global teams, including time-zone flexibility.

• Excellent communication skills - written, verbal, presentation and influencing.

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Science, Mathematics or Computing, although significant experience and track record with tertiary qualifications is acceptable.

• Willingness to travel to RUK locations as required.

• SC cleared or the ability to become SC cleared.

• Willingness to undertake and secure DV clearance.


• Prior experience of defence or highly regulated technical industry.

• Advanced professional certifications; MCSA, MCSE, MCSD, CISSP, W3C, etc.

• Knowledge of infrastructure technologies including but not limited to network, security, VDI, Windows Server systems, including design, troubleshooting, infrastructure, and operations.

• Proven experience within a similar role as a Solutions Architect, Solutions Designer or Systems Integrator in a multi - technology environment.

• Proven experience and understanding of designing and integrating IT solutions across a number of different technology platforms.
