Automation Engineer (liquid handling robotics)

The Automation Engineer supports Laboratory Operations by providing automation support for liquid handling automation platforms. The role is to facilitate the repair, maintenance, calibration and certification of laboratory instrumentation.

The ideal automation engineer is expected to maintain and troubleshoot laboratory liquid handling automation instrumentation, including conventional liquid handlers, acoustic dispensers, robotic arms, plate readers, and other devices.

Liaise with staff regarding the services required for the efficient installation, maintenance, moves and relocations and support of instrumentation.

Qualify, redeploy, repair, service and calibrate equipment, either by own expertise or develop knowledge via OEM training.

Monitors instrument performance, provide reliability and downtime data and suggest efficiency improvements.

Program, troubleshoot and maintain automated platforms such as Hamilton, Agilent (Velocity11), Beckman, Tecan, ECHO and Biomek.

Direct experience with hardware platforms such as the Hamilton MICROLAB STAR, Biomek FX, Agilent Bravo, Labcyte Echo, and familiarity with integration software are a plus.

Must possess excellent "instant troubleshooting" skills, be able to evaluate priorities and meet deadlines.

About you:

B.S. in Engineering / Science or equivalent independent experience servicing or working with complex laboratory instrumentation.

Advanced Modern Apprenticeship with NVQ 3 in engineering or HNC/HND in relevant engineering discipline

2+ years of experience working in a related field

Ability to read and understand electrical/mechanical drawings

Instrument problem solving / troubleshooting / root cause analysis

Thorough knowledge of automation liquid handlers such as such as

Hamilton, Agilent "Velocity11", Beckman, Tecan, labcyte ECHO and Biomek.
