North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust is at a truly exciting time of innovation and development. Through our Trust Strategy and values, we are committed achieving the delivery of safe, accessible, high quality and sustainable healthcare services in North Cumbria for future generations.

The Trust is committed to the long term development of a culture of continuous improvement as a way of working across all areas of the organisation to respond to changes in health care need and demand. The post holder will be expected to be flexible and open to changes, to identify opportunities for improvement and to play an active role in developing, implementing and sustaining improvements to working practices and patient services.

Trust Integration

The boards of Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust have confirmed that, alongside their regulators and governors, they will explore options to formally join together.

The move is a natural progression of the vision of the two organisations and broader system to join up healthcare for patients, and will also improve efficiency by reducing duplication and bureaucracy. It follows news in May that North Cumbria Health and Care System has been confirmed as one of the national pilots for integrated care and is being described by regulators as one of the most rapidly improving systems.

The two Trusts have had the same Chief Executive since 1st September 2017 and have already taken a number of steps to join up their work. The Trusts will now explore formal ways to unite using guidance from the NHS Improvement on undertaking transactions with the ambition of doing so in 2019. For some staff that means that either now or in the near future they will be in roles working across both organisations.

Please note: cross site working will be required at locations within North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust.

We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Medicine. This is a new post designed to support the delivery of the UCLan MBBS undergraduate programme and the acute medicine service within the North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS trust.

The post will combine a significant educational role with clinical practice. The teaching component of the post will involve predominantly small group and bedside teaching as well as providing clinical and educational supervision to undergraduates. The postholder may also be involved in additional activities such as OSCE, workplace-based and coursework assessments. Time will also be allocated in the job plan for administration and preparation associated with educational activity. Clinical duties will be agreed with the Clinical Director for medicine, support the delivery of the adult general medicine service and be appropriate to the grade and experience of the appointee.

Although employed by the Trust the postholder would be expected to hold an honorary academic post (appropriate to their clinical seniority) in the UCLan School of Medicine. The postholder will also be offered the opportunity to study for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (or an appropriate equivalent qualification) with UCLan.

The post is offered as a full-time position, however, applications will be considered from candidates who for personal reasons wish to work less than full-time.

The post will be based at West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven. Some work at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle may be required.

We strongly encourage interested applicants to contact the Trust and where possible, meet prospective colleagues, and to view the area and all of its attractions.

For an informal discussion regarding the post or an informal visit, please contact:

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years.
