Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ideally situated on the Fylde Coast just a 45 minute drive from Manchester. The Trust provides services to the 440,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre and North Lancashire, as well as specialist tertiary services in haematology, cystic fibrosis, cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery. We employ more than 6,500 staff, have approximately 900 beds and have a planned turnover in excess of £410m for 2017/2018.

Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fantastic and exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic consultant to join our well integrated team of forward thinking anaesthetists and work in our state of the art cardiothoracic intensive care unit at Lancashire Cardiac Centre. We are a close team of eleven Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists providing Anaesthetic and critical care cover for cardiothoracic surgery and rapidly expanding cardiology programmes based in the Lancashire Cardiac Centre at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

We provide a comprehensive range of adult cardiothoracic surgical and cardiology procedures to a population of 1.6 million in Lancashire and South Cumbria. The Lancashire Cardiac Centre has 4 cardiothoracic operating theatres, 4 Cardiac Catheter Laboratories and 20 critical care beds, with the plans for expansion with a state of the art hybrid theatre. We operate on approximately 1200 cardiac surgical and 500 thoracic cases per year and the applicant should preferably have experience in transoesophageal echo and cardiothoracic critical care.

Blackpool and its surrounding areas offer excellent housing, educational and recreational facilities, as well as close proximity to areas of outstanding natural beauty including the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. There is also easy access to the national motorway and rail network.

Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC and be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of attaining CCT at date of interview.
