The Role

Are you a reliable and dependable skilled nurse or paramedic, who is passionate and committed to delivering high quality healthcare advice to patients and making a real difference to people's lives? If that sounds like you then we have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our out of hours integrated urgent care 111 service.

We are seeking Telephone Advice Nurses/Paramedics who would like to join our dynamic teams. Your role will be to carry out complex clinical triage, providing assessment, advice and information to the patient. You will also support and assist our Health Advisors in the management of critical situations whilst ensuring patient safety.

You must be a registered nurse or paramedic with experience in at least two health care settings or specialties (one must be general adult care) or an experienced paramedic. You will have exceptional communication skills and have an understanding of telephone triage although full training will be given.

We have individual roles in all our care co-ordination centres, based in Ashford in Kent, Ipswich and Norwich. You will be permanently based at your chosen location.

Home working may be available after 6 months service.

IC24 provides services to over 7.2 million patients, including GP led out of hours services, NHS 111, primary care and secondary care support services as well as health and justice nursing services.

Hours Available:

  • Days, evenings, overnight and weekends covering a 24/7 operation working a flexible rota (rotas are released 6 weeks in advance)
  • Full and part time opportunities available
  • Full time - 37.5 hours per week
  • Part time - 12-18 hours minimum per week

Please note there is a requirement to work 3 weekends out of 4 as well as public and bank holidays. Rotas are focused on out of hours with some day shifts.

Due to the nature of this position, employment is subject to proof of eligibility to work in the UK, completion of a satisfactory basic or enhanced DBS disclosure and two references.

Person Specification:

  • Full Registration with NMC or HCPC.
  • UK permit or right to work in the United Kingdom
  • Articulate clear command of English language
  • Flexibility with working evenings and weekends
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Understands the importance of evidence based practice and clinical effectiveness
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance and quality issues and health and social policy
  • Ability to make good clear concise medical notes, both computerised and manual
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to listen and empathise
  • Potential to cope with stressful situations
  • Ability to undertake responsibility
  • Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and an understanding of the role of teamwork in providing quality care
  • Trustworthy, flexible and a good time keeper

  • Post-registration experience in primary or urgent care
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NHS Urgent Care
