This is an exciting time for our staff, following a recent review of healthcare services in Dorset which will see major changes to the way healthcare is provided in our region. As one of the two acute NHS providers in the east of the county, our services will be closely linked to those provided at the Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We're working in close collaboration to deliver excellent emergency and planned care over the two sites, for the people of east Dorset.

Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to be able to offer a highly motivated senior midwife the opportunity to join our team in the role of Consultant Midwife.

This is a highly valued role within our maternity service and has been developed to enable the department to achieve our vision to work with partners to deliver high quality, safe services that support women and families to give their children the best possible start in life. You must have significant experience at senior level within an acute setting and have a proven record of success in delivering organisational change at a clinical level.

The Consultant Midwife will work in close partnership with the Head of Midwifery , Clinical Director, Consultant Obstetricians, Matrons, midwives and wider maternity team. The Consultant Midwife has a specific role in leading on initiatives and developing strategies to promote and facilitate normal childbirth in the Consultant Led Unit and reducing infant morbidity and mortality.

She/he will support and encourage midwives to look at birth within the context of a social model of health/wellness including the social, psychological and emotional needs of women and their families.

Poole Maternity Service provides a full range of midwifery care and is the obstetric centre for high risk care across East Dorset. The service delivers care to in excess of 5000 women per annum. Of these women, 4600 give birth on the Poole Maternity site. The Maternity Unit achieved Baby Friendly full Accreditation in July 2016 and was rated 'good' in the CQC inspection in the same year. It is an innovative time to join our team at Poole as we begin to collaborate with The Royal Bournemouth Hospital Maternity team as part of the Dorset Clinical Services Review.
