Principal Clinical Scientist

Full time 37.5 hours a week

£52,306 - £60,983 per annum

Applications are invited for the post of Principal Clinical Scientist based at Whiston Hospital laboratory site which is part of the St. Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals Clinical Biochemistry Department that also covers Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals sites. You will be expected to work across sites in order to provide comprehensive clinical biochemistry service alongside the existing Consultant Chemical Pathologist, the Southport based Principal Clinical Scientist and the BMS team. The post holder must be HCPC registered as a clinical scientist and ideally should have the full FRCPath, however, applications are encouraged from individuals with FRCPath part 1 who are close to completion of part 2 with significant experience as an HCPC registered clinical scientist.

The department is fully UKAS accredited and processes over 6 million tests each year. In addition to the comprehensive range of clinical biochemistry testing the laboratory also has immunology providing allergy testing, electrophoresis and autoantibody screening. You will be expected to play a leading role in the development of the analytical service and participate in the running of the department including authorisation, clinical liaison, audit, research, education and training. Communications skills will need to be excellent and experience of laboratory and Hospital Information Technology Networks is an advantage.
