Job description

At Turning Point, we support people with Learning Disabilities and mental health issues across England.

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to people's lives as you improve their daily living skills. Passionate about people, you will enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience and training you need to progress with us.

Where will I be working?

You will be working in one of our supported living facilities in Barnsley or supporting people with mental health needs in their own home or local community. Our services offer support for adults with Learning Disabilities and individuals with mental health needs. We tailor our support to enable people to be as independent as possible.

What will I be doing?

Your duties may change depending on the service you will be working in. However at Turning Point we all want to achieve the same goal - promoting independence!

This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Some of your duties will involve_

  • Supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday
  • Arranging activities in the home and in the local community
  • Providing personal care, manual handling and support with medication
  • Developing people's' life skills and personal interests
  • Accessing local community groups, education and support with employment opportunities
  • Helping the people we support stay safe and healthy


What skills and qualities do I need to have?

Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and mental health needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential. What is essential is that you are_
  • Passionate, caring and enthusiastic
  • Flexible, patient and non-judgemental
  • A great team player with lots of energy
  • Able to demonstrate good communication skills
  • Able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling


Shift Patterns

This is a 24 hour service, for individuals with a learning disability, therefore flexibility is essential. You will be working a range of shifts from 7_00/8:00 am to 2_00/3:00pm and 2_00/3:00 pm to 9_00/10:00pm, sleep ins or waking nights, some weekends.

Our mental health support will vary from a couple of hours here and there to shorter visits for pop in type support/ welfare calls .

Please note that working hours may vary from service to service.
