Newly created opportunity for an experienced, pragmatic and innovative lawyer to join FTSE50 FMCG's Legal team as Senior Counsel, based in Slough. Reporting to the Area Legal Director, this role is a key interface between the in-market commercial business, the European HQ and the company's global legal and operational units.

There is flexibility in terms of applicant background, but the role would suit a strong generalist lawyer with experience in a mix of corporate and consumer-driven legal environments, and some existing in-house experience. An entrepreneurial but risk-aware mindset, and an interest in building a wider strategic vision and legal support model for the European legal team, is critical.

With this in mind, the role requires a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across a matrixed and geographically diverse organisation, to learn quickly about evolving areas of the business and find innovative, pragmatic ways to deliver legal support within a leanly resourced team.

Essential skills for the successful candidate include:

* English law qualified lawyer with approx. 7-8 years PQE (there is some flexibility in the PQE level for the right candidate)

* Intellectually agile and flexible approach to managing complex legal matters and creative approach to problem solving

* Some experience and understanding of a fast moving consumer goods environment and the associated legal risks, ideally in a health or wellness context

* Experience in developing a strategic vision and plan for a legal team or function, in an evolving and growing business (ideally one with both offline and online/e-commerce operations)

* An ability to identify and prioritise the major legal risks across the Area, propose appropriate mitigation measures, and build a model of support which leverages, where possible, existing resources

* Excellent ability to build relationships with, and manage, multiple stakeholders, including working closely and collaboratively

* Experience and understanding of managing legal risks associated with at least some, or all, of the following legal areas: consumer advertising and marketing; competition and antitrust law (including managing routine inquiries or correspondence with antitrust regulators); GDPR implementation and data privacy; managing commercial contracts; strategic litigation, dispute resolution and or regulatory challenges; compliance

* Ability to develop appropriate tools and templates for ensuring consistent legal support
