Product Assistant

As the Product Assistant you will be responsible for designing, sourcing and developing new and existing products, proposing creative and innovative ideas and managing them from concept creation through to launch.

You will work across product positioning, promotions, price pointing, and marketing communications to successfully launch new products, maximise awareness, drive demand and reflect the brand values.

Key Objectives
  • Working with the Product Marketing Manager, Operations Manager, Online Manager, Education Manager, and National Sales Managers to develop and launch new products and ranges in line with a product development calendar.
  • To analyse the market, consumer trends/requirements, customer/team feedback and competitive information to understand brand position and identify commercial needs/values to support successful future growth of the brand with expansion of the product offering.
  • Working collaboratively with the marketing department to communicate and execute consistent key messaging of new product launches, following agreed style guide and strategy.
  • Achieving quarterly sales targets, agreed with the MD, in line with the product calendar and brand strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess market competition by comparing the company's product to competitors' products.
  • Recommend the nature and scope of present and future product lines by appraising new product ideas and/or product or packaging changes.
  • Provide information for management by preparing short-term and long-term product sales forecasts and special reports and analyses; answering questions and requests.
  • Bring new products to market by analysing proposed product requirements and product development programs; preparing return-on-investment analyses; establishing time schedules with manufacturing supply chain.
  • Negotiate pricing and product offer with all suppliers to ensure best commercial and operational outcome for the brand.
  • Organising and attending UK and overseas exhibitions for sales and/or sourcing
  • Assess product market data by calling on customers with field sales people and evaluating sales call results.
  • Introduce and market new products by developing and co-ordinating a cross functional team within the organisation to develop campaign launches of new products, sales packages or promotions with structured sales drive and forecast; including analysing information such as customer testing, competitor information or team feedback. Managing and issuing critical paths.
  • Determine product pricing by utilising market research data; reviewing production and sales costs; anticipating volume; costing special, considering profit margins, distribution goals, and customised orders.
  • Complete operational requirements (ie. education support - working with the education manager to assist/support a strong learning plan for the product/s).
  • Working with Purchasing and to take responsibility for ensuring stock control / ordering is kept consistent with the demands of the business and stock is being regularly monitored to prevent slow moving lines. To include; a) removal of discontinued SKUs within guidelines of existing procedure b) monthly review and necessary action of quarantine stock c) identification and necessary action of slow moving SKUs within guidelines of existing procedure, particularly where skus are perishable.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. Attain an understanding of the market dynamics for the brand, its competitive landscape and predict how it may develop in 2-4 years.
  • Source contract manufacturers so product and packaging to meet NPD and commercial requirements in form of a) costing b) quality c) regulatory compliance
  • Obtaining and coordinating all Manufacturing Documentation for NPI
  • Creating strong brand promotions 12 months in advance, adapting to the requirements of the business where necessary, to help achieve your objectives and those of the National Sales Managers.

Other responsibilities
  • Regular communication with other managers to assist each other and communication with other departments for an efficiently operating business and service to customers.
  • Regular (daily or weekly as necessary) contact with National Sales Managers.
  • Working with the Sales Manager to identify gaps in our offering or assessing other opportunities to ensure the product and service offering meets our customers' needs now and as they evolve.
  • Working with other departments toward Company goals and objectives.
  • To follow and implement compliancy requirements in relation to European and UK law.

  • Have an instinctive feeling about future product concepts
  • Have excellent organisation skills for keeping on track and following up of new product launches throughout the development process.
  • Be a good listener, able to respond to results and consumer research
  • Be enthusiastic about the product area
  • Excellent telephone and email communication skills for liaison with suppliers
