We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, energetic and motivated person to work as a Resident Graduate Boarding Assistant. The role will be for one year and will be split across supporting boarding and other departments within the School. The post would ideally suit a recent graduate seeking a gap year after their degree course. The post could also lead to a career in teaching or a pastoral role within an education setting.

Sir Roger Manwood's School is an 'Outstanding' boarding School for boys and girls, situated in the beautiful, historic town of Sandwich. With close links to Canterbury and within easy reach of London. We have 1000 day students, all of whom have joined the School through Kent's grammar School selection. The boarding community consists of 2 boarding houses for students aged 11 - 18, with a maximum capacity of 60 boarders.

The role is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to gain sound educational and work experience. The person we are looking to appoint will be dynamic, empathetic, a self-motivator and committed. The role will ensure the successful candidate will have a varied educational experience and thus provide them with a great career stepping stone for their future.

The post is a residential position and single accommodation is provided. The Resident Graduate Boarding Assistant role is a full time, term time only, salaried post and will start with effect from the 28th August 2019. The successful person will be expected to live in School during term time, as evening and week end duties will be required. Accommodation will be provided until the week after the end of the Summer Term.

The role includes:
  • Supporting the boarding house staff in caring for the boarders, including set evening duties during the week and occasional cover duties
  • Evening supervision of prep and bedtime routines
  • Accompanying boarding trips and activities in the evening and week ends
  • Main responsibilities will be within boarding, however there is the possibility of additional hours (for extra payment) across the School in interested subject areas.

Information about the school

Sir Roger Manwood's School is a mixed grammar school for students aged 11-18. The school was granted Academy status on 1 March 2011. We have 1007 students in total, 260 in the Sixth Form and 55 boarders. In September 2014, the school began an expansion from being a 4 form entry to a 5 form entry. The school is set in particularly attractive grounds and has excellent facilities.

The school was inspected by OfSTED in April 2012. The inspectors judged the school to be outstanding in every respect. In the achievement of the pupils, in the quality of the teaching, in the behaviour and safety of the pupils, in leadership and management and in the overall effectiveness of the school the judgements of the Inspection team were in every case the top grade.

Academic results are consistently of a very high standard. As a result we appear prominently in the national league tables. The vast majority of our Sixth Formers go on to the most competitive universities including Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Kings and Warwick. The extra-curricular life of the school is a very striking feature of life at Manwood's.

There is an exceptionally wide range of sporting and cultural activities which all attract high levels of participation. There are also imaginative international ties, including those with schools in Germany, China, the Gambia and India.

The school has a warm, friendly atmosphere. The care, guidance and support offered is outstanding and is much appreciated by students and parents alike. The mixed nature of the school and its boarding element help to create a family ethos which helps to make the school as successful as it is.

Our School and all its personnel are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children. This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
