IAPT Joint Clinical Lead (0.6 wte) or Deputy Clinical Lead (0.8 wte) fixed-term contract maternity leave cover (August 2019-20)

Hounslow IAPT service

Hours per Week: 22.5 (Joint Clinical Lead) or 30 (Deputy Clinical Lead)

Grade: Band 8C or 8B

We are looking for one part-time Clinical Lead or Deputy Clinical Lead, depending on experience, to join the West London NHS Trust Improving Access to Psychological Therapies team in the borough of Hounslow. The post is maternity cover for a one year period. The Joint Clinical Lead post is a job share and you will therefore work alongside the current Joint Clinical Lead.

  • Successful candidates will have exceptional interpersonal and clinical skills and will continued service development and quality improvement. They will have experience in the operational management of an IAPT service, a proven track record of IAPT line management/supervision and performance management, a detailed understanding of the IAPT key performance indicators, the ability to deliver a high volume and high quality clinical service, a good understanding of all aspects of clinical governance, and a firm commitment to the promotion of staff wellbeing.

The service has good retention of staff and therefore benefits from the stability of a mature and experienced workforce. The service regularly exceeds their recovery targets and receives positive feedback through Patient Opinion and IAPTus. The team has a friendly and welcoming culture and there is an experienced senior management team that supports the Deputy and Clinical Lead in running the service. The service offers a range of individual therapies, a well established group programme and clinical services for women in the perinatal period. The service has established excellent relationships with the GPs and commissioners in the borough, and consistently achieves access and recovery targets. We have recently been commissioned to increase access to evidence based psychological therapies to 19% of the prevalence of common mental health problems in Hounslow. This is part of the trajectory to meet the 25% access target in accordance with the Five Year Forward View for Mental Health (2016). In line with this, we recently completed the NHS-E Wave 2 pilot for the new integrated LTC-IAPT services and will continue to develop our care pathways for patients with long term conditions through co-location and collaborative working with healthcare providers. The post-holder will be expected to support the ongoing development of this pathway.

Although the post is a fixed-term contract, we hope to attract candidates that are looking for the opportunity to step into a leadership role within a well-established IAPT service during an exciting period of change. The service has built a positive reputation and there will be opportunities to establish links and work collaboratively with senior members of the other IAPT services within West London NHS Trust.

The Hounslow IAPT service is provided by West London NHS Trust in partnership with Anchor Counselling and Twining Enterprise. The service operates from a main hub in Isleworth, with clinics also being run from sites in Feltham, Brentford, Chiswick and Hounslow Central and Hounslow West. The post holder will predominantly be based in the main hub in Isleworth.

The service forms part of the Psychological Medicine Service Line within Local Services at West London NHS, which includes related services such as Clinical Health Psychology and Liaison and Perinatal Psychiatry. This provides opportunities for shared learning and collaboration. There is ample peer support available to the post-holder who maintain close contact with the other IAPT leads in the Trust, and other senior clinicians and managers within the service line. Regular supervision is provided, and the Joint Clinical Lead will report to the Head of Psychology for the Service Line as well as the Clinical Director of the Service line and Executive Deputy Director of Local Services, and Trust-Wide Lead for Psychological Services.
