Haematology Speciality Doctor

North Wales

Based at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor

£39,251 - £73,195 per annum pro rata, 2 years Fixed Term

This is a replacement post and will support the service re-design that is underway within Haematology.

This is Wales' largest University Health Board, with three large District General Hospitals and a Cancer Treatment Centre. Each of the three District General Hospitals, Ysbyty Gwynedd (Bangor), Ysbyty Glan Clywd (Rhyl) and Ysbyty Maelor (Wrexham) has a Haematology Department offering its own unique case-mix, with opportunities to pursue specialist interests. The services delivered by our Haematologists are in tune with the needs of the local population of each hospital, whose catchment areas vary from urban to rural/remote.

All three sites have Clinical Nurse Specialists and deliver chemotherapy within specialist treatment areas. Research interests within the department span a wide range and they include leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and haemophilia. The successful post holder will have access to the Clinical Schools, Education Centres, Universities and Clinical Research / Trials Departments that are an integral part of the Health Board.

This is a key role within the organisation, complementing the team of Consultant Haematologist, forming part of the North Wales Clinical Haematology Multidisciplinary Team to provide medical care to patients on the ward, day unit and in the outpatient department. An interest in developing laboratory skills would be encouraged. The majority of the workload will involve general and malignant hematology.

This post would be suitable for any medical doctor whom have completed their foundation FY1 and FY2 years and beyond. Experience in clinical hematology is desirable, but not essential. The post would be suitable for a doctor looking to gain further specialty experience in Haematology. Consultant lead training and education will be provided.
