Consultant in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Public Health Wales

Join our expanding team in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board

We are developing a national Health Protection service for Wales which will deliver a world-class service for the prevention, management and control of infection. To do this we will develop new workforce and technological models to ensure national resilience and the delivery of the best solutions and outcomes for the people of Wales.

We are in the process of expanding our field epidemiology capacity and provide bioinformatics to deliver the benefits of genomic 'big data', and targeted surveillance. This is supported by a laboratory network throughout Wales, delivering diagnostic services with comprehensive molecular diagnostic and cultural bacteriology plus rapid diagnostic facilities.

This expansion of the team is part of a wider development of the infection management services in Wales, designed to improve the management of infection and prepare Wales for the future. The aim is to improve management of the ever-increasing number of complex infections, combat antimicrobial resistance, healthcare associated infections and emerging threats as well as contributing to the delivery of health care in the community. Expansion of the training programme is a key part of this development. Together we will protect the public from infection and achieve a healthier future for Wales.

We are looking for a Consultant Medical Microbiology/Infectious Diseases post based at the Cardiff Microbiology Laboratory, to support the clinical infection service to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, and specifically to develop an Infectious Diseases consultative service to Llandough Hospital.

The salary range is £75,881 to £98,515 per annum plus Commitment Awards.
