A fantastic opportunity for an Embedded Systems Engineer within a tech-for-good start-up, early years of a start-up with big plans and huge potential!

The company

A young tech-for-good startup in Cardiff, they have received funding from the Welsh Government to produce a highly intelligent system using Artificial intelligence algorithms that is able to track falls, seizures and emergencies in the homes of vulnerable people.

Their product is unlike anything you've ever heard about or seen before, it's a vision-based system, that detects movement around the house, tracks activities, emergency situations, falls or seizures. It has some additional environmental sensors too.

Your role within it

We're looking for an Embedded Systems Engineer, you will be analysing the product environment, investigating it and delivering feasible solutions. They are using AI and machine learning, to enable to sensory system to even be able to track how many times someone is switching on their tap and drinking enough water, it's able to predict early signs of dementia.

The system will send alerts of emergencies automatically to family and friends. It can also track things like unhealthy indoor conditions and loneliness! You would be working with AI developers, along with their contractors who are doing the hardware design. You will be writing the software so that the sensors can communicate together, working closely with the CTO on systems architecture and developing new features, working out how to control the sensors, integrating, doing tests and development of algorithms.

We're looking for someone who is very much a 'self-starter', wanting to take ownership of the work and be open to trying different things. Communication is key, as you'll be working closely with the other team members and with manufacturers. Their focus is on the performance design and code quality. They LOVE transparency, if you're someone who's opened to giving and receiving feedback you'll fit in well. Overall, they want to support you and take you along this journey with them.

  • At least 2+ years with C/C++ Embedded Systems development
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, Electronic Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience with serial communication protocols: I2C, SPI, and UART
  • Experience writing and integrating drivers for chipset (Power Managements, Sensors etc)

If you're interested in the position, please apply and I will be in touch.
