Technical Author

Technical Author: A major Defence company is looking to recruit a Technical Author at their Basildon site on an initial 6 Months contract.

Technical Author Responsibilities:
* Analyse, define and create technical publications to military specifications.
* Define the format and structure to be used in the generation of paper and electronic technical publications and provisioning documentation to meet customer needs.
* Producing data modules for an exacting client, converting from word to XML and amending the XML documents using XMLSPY. (or similar package)
* Highlight to the customer/user, the link between part numbers and parts within an illustration. (Adobe tools using layers maybe a suitable crossover)
* Collation of ILS elements to support the creation of technical writing.
* Assist in the analysis, preparation and delivery of Supportability Engineering activities with the main focus being in Technical Publications.
* Support a variety of projects within the company product portfolio across the Southampton and Basildon offices.

Technical Author Requirements:
* Advanced MS OFFICE skills essential, MS Word skills with advanced knowledge of styles and formatting, paragraph numbing, creation of linked pdfs. Good graphical skills using PowerPoint or Visio.
* Authoring to specifications, AESP, BR, DAP, S1000D
* An engineering or technical understanding is essential to enable analysis and interpretation of the IPT's requirements.
* Accurate recording of the customer requirements against their Statement of Work and the Requirement Specification is essential with referencing to all source documentation.
* Working knowledge of the content and format used in typical Technical Publications in S1000D format and provisioning documentation specifications.
* Extensive knowledge of the content and format used in most military, civil or commercial Technical Publications and Provisioning Documentation specifications.
* Evidence of Experience in identifying and structuring procedural tasks and descriptive tasks will be expected.
* Evidence of technical writing which supports clear simplified English will be expected.
* Working knowledge and experience of Adobe Illustrator
* Have a deep understanding of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS)

The successful candidate will be required to achieve full SC clearance for this role, but can start on a Basic Clearance!!!
