The 'Little Engineer Nursery' is located within the Tottenham Hale Village. The Hale Village is a purpose built development with a diverse community and local amenities close to the excellent transport links. This satellite nursery is part of our Tri-School Early Years team and the professional network. Our Nursery is in a purpose built and carefully designed the new building, equipped with the best resources.

Little Engineers are looking for an experienced Early Years Practitioner, all year round or term-time with a relevant level 3 qualification. We require a minimum of 1-year continuous experience working in a Nursery setting with ages 1-3.

The role includes Key Worker responsibilities. All children are to be supported by their individual development so that they have the best possible outcomes. The successful candidate will provide a safe and stimulating environment for all children. You will be required to work to high Safeguarding standards adhering to all Nursery Policies and Procedures.

You will have:
  • Relevant experience within an Early Years setting with children aged 1-3 years old
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS and Safeguarding requirements
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • An excellent understanding of what an outstanding nursery provision looks like
  • A strong communicator with children, parents and staff
  • A positive, clear role model and a willing team player
  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent or above

MAIN DUTIES
  1. To develop a knowledge of a range of learning support needs and to develop an understanding of the specific needs of the pupils to be supported
  2. To supervise and provide particular support for pupils, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
  3. Taking into account the learning support involved, to aid the pupils to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and on his/her own by, for example:
  4. Clarifying and explaining instructions;
  5. Ensuring the child is able to use equipment and materials provided; assisting in weaker areas, e.g. language, behaviour, social skills, reading, spelling, handwriting/presentation;
  6. Meeting physical needs as required whilst encouraging independence; assisting with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes;
  7. Developing appropriate resources to support the children;
  8. Providing support for individual children inside and outside the classroom to enable them to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  9. To establish a constructive relationship with the pupils and interact with them according to individual needs
  10. To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all children
  11. To set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
  12. To provide the necessary pastoral care to enable children to feel secure and happy
  13. To provide feedback to parents in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the Nursery Manager
  14. Assist with the Nursery Manager (and other professionals as appropriate), in the development and planning of a suitable programme of support for pupils
  15. Monitor pupil's responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement as directed
  16. Provide detailed and regular feedback about the children to the teacher Contribute to the maintenance of children's progress records
  17. Participate in the evaluation of the support programme
  18. Promote good behaviour, dealing promptly with conflicts and incidents in line with established policy, and encourage children to take responsibility for their own behaviour
  19. Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers
  20. Administer routine tests and undertake routine marking of children's work
  21. Undertake structured and agreed to learn activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses
  22. Undertake intervention programmes linked to local and national learning strategies, recording achievement and progress, and feeding back to the teacher
  23. Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils' competence and independence in its use
  24. Assist with the preparation and maintenance of equipment/resources required to meet lesson plans/relevant learning activities to support the delivery of an enriched curriculum
  25. Be aware of and comply with the procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  26. Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
  27. Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the Nursery Appreciate and support the roles of other professionals
  28. Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required
  29. Where appropriate develop a relationship to foster links between home and Nursery Liaise, advise and consult with other members of the team supporting the children as appropriate
  30. Contribute to reviews of children's progress as appropriate
  31. Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance
  32. Prepare and present displays of children's work as required

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Be aware of key Nursery plans, policies and procedures, especially the Health and Safety Procedures and Child Protection Procedures.
  2. Take part in Performance Management in order to identify and agree on development and training needs.
  3. Within your contracted hours, undertake Induction Training and other training as identified in Performance Management Processes, as may be required to enable you to provide the Nursery with effective support.
  4. Attend and participate in meetings as required.
  5. Be aware of the learning and physical needs of the pupils you support.
  6. Respect the confidentiality of pupil information and respond sensitively to pupils' needs.
  7. To be aware of and to actively implement Haringey's Equal Opportunities Policy and the Nursery's Race Equality Policy.
  8. To carry out any other reasonable tasks in keeping with the post as specified by the Nursery Manager.

Arrangements for appraisal of performance:

There is an annual appraisal cycle carried out by line managers which seek to acknowledge success, resolve problems and identify training/development needs.
