The recruitment department of the French Chamber is currently looking for an Assistant Accountant for its Accounting and Implantation Department.

With over 135 years of experience in the UK and over 570 member companies, the French Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain is the largest foreign Chamber in the UK and one of the 5 biggest French Chambers worldwide. Its mission is to contribute to developing and fostering economic, commercial and financial relations between France and Great Britain.

Key Responsibilities:

As well as doing the accountancy for the Chamber, the Department also provides French companies a comprehensive range of services.

Implantation accountancy
  • Ensure that all the information necessary to process the monthly management accounts of the Implantation clients is received on time
  • Impute in Opera all the data received from clients
  • Ensure the management accounts of the Implantation clients are produced on time and accurately
  • Deal with incoming queries regarding the monthly management accounts from the Implantation clients
  • Ensure the most friendly and professional relationship with Implantation clients

VAT return
  • Complete the quarterly VAT return form on the behalf of the Implantation clients and ask the client to sign it
  • Submit the completed and signed form to HMRC and Excise online

Coordination between the Implantation Department and the parent company in France
  • Produce the monthly management accounts for all clients and send them
  • Liaise with the parent company in France in regards to any queries they may have regarding the management accounts or any other matters
  • Assist Implantation clients with general administration tasks

  • Updating the databases: input accurate data into CRM
  • Assist the Accounts and Implantation department in preparing reports/presentations/ Accounts
  • Manage the dedicated trainee (supervision and monitoring of his / her progress)
  • Depending on the existing workload, other projects may be given by the Accounting and Business Support Manager
  • Manage archiving (paper & electronic)
  • Write procedures if necessary
  • Weekly meeting, monthly operational reporting to the Accounts & Business Support Manager
  • Assisting Auditors when visiting the Chamber to carry out a audit on the behalf of our clients
  • To absorb the workload of the other Assistant Accountants during their absence

  • 1-2 years of relevant working experience (nominal ledger, sales ledger, purchase ledger and cashbook, knowledge of VAT declaration and PAYE etc.)
  • Bilingual French/ English
  • Excellent credit control skills
  • Accounting/Finance graduate (BTSComptabilitéGestionouDUTGestiondesEntreprises et Administration or equivalent)
  • Excellent Ms Office Pack (Excel, Word etc.)
  • Accounting package: Pegasus Opera
  • Able to assimilate new ideas and tasks quickly
  • Fast, but methodical, organised person who follows good accounting procedures
  • Able to keep strict deadlines
