Highly Specialist Clinical Occupational Therapist, Band 7

Permanent, 37.5 hours a week
Directorate Work Team/Service: Bexley Community Mental Health Services, Bexley Care Directorate

Bexley Care is a collaboration between Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and London Borough of Bexley, bringing together working age adult mental health, older adult mental health, community health and adult social care staff to provide care in a way which puts patients at its heart. We have begun working more closely with local GPs over the last year and the intention is to restructure the existing services into local care networks that mirror the GP localities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide a Band 7 OT leadership role within Bexley Care. As a highly specialist mental health OT, you will work closely with the Local Care Network management team. You will provide senior support, alongside OT specific advice and support, to multi-disciplinary colleagues. You will provide leadership and supervision to mental health OTs, as well as having responsibility for co-ordinating and ensuring the effectiveness of the mental health support workers.

You will have a role in liaising with colleagues in partner agencies around social inclusion and take a lead in facilitating the Research Net group, which encourages the participation of service users and carers in research projects. You will contribute to the multi-disciplinary assessment clinic. You will work with specific OT caseloads following the care pathway providing a high standard of service user focused interventions around occupational roles. You will also carry out generic and care co-ordination roles as an agreed percentage of your casework. In applying occupational therapy models you will work from an evidence base and draw upon current developments in Recovery and Social Inclusion. You will be committed to a service user focus and creative in finding ways to help people develop and achieve personal goals.

The post offers an opportunity to shape the delivery of occupational therapy services within the localities. You will also contribute to the development, monitoring and review of the overall treatment pathways, including relevant groups, ensuring the occupational needs of mental health service users are addressed and provide an occupational therapy perspective on service delivery.

The Oxleas' Occupational Therapy Service is committed to the continuing professional development (CPD) of its staff. A well-developed supervision structure, dedicated CPD time, and a variety of training opportunities underpin this.
