Here's a chance to help a nature conservation charity, working in the UK and abroad to save wild plants.

You will be able to produce statutory accounts, as well as complying with all the relevant reporting regulations. But just as importantly, you'll be skilled at providing management information and advising everybody - project teams, your senior colleagues and our board of trustees - on getting best value for money, managing risks and ensuring Plantlife is financially sustainable.

  • Manage financial operations for Plantlife International to ensure that business objectives are met, including supporting budget managers
  • Prepare, monitor and manage the annual budget and accounts
  • Be responsible for all aspects financial compliance and risk management, including policy and procedures
  • Ensure that staff employment terms are fair and that all aspects of the pay and reward package are properly delivered


  • Manage all financial operations, functions and systems, with the support of a finance officer including:
  • Sales, purchase and nominal ledgers and payroll process
  • Statutory payments and taxes including NI, VAT and Gift Aid returns
  • Bank accounts and investments, including sterling and foreign currency accounts
  • Monitor cash and forecast cash flow, managing accounts and reserves to cater for fluctuations
  • Produce annual budgets and rolling 3 year forward look including department and project budgets
  • With the advice of Plantlife's auditors, ensure all financial operations are fully compliant with SORP and other relevant statutory requirements including the Charity Commission and OSCR
  • Provide advice on expenditure proposals and project funding applications
  • Ensure adequate value for money, risk management and fraud prevention in all financial transactions through appropriate policies and practice
  • Work with auditors and liaise with colleagues to plan any required audit involvement.
  • Manage the relationship with Plantlife's investment managers and support the Honorary Treasurer to ensure an adequate and effective investment policy and returns
  • Serve as Plantlife's Company Secretary and liaise with solicitors, bankers, and other professional advisers

  • Produce budgets, forecasts accounts, management information and financial reports (eg income and expenditure reports, cash flow and reserves forecasts, tracking restricted and unrestricted balances)
  • Annual budgets with budget holders including department and project budgets and rolling 3 year forward look
  • Quarterly reports for budget holders, senior managers and trustee Board members
  • Support the Honorary Treasurer to enable scrutiny by the Finance subcommittee and report quarterly on financial issues and risks to the board of trustees
  • Produce the year end accounts and trustees report, manage the annual audit and complete and file annual returns and other reports as required to Companies House, the Charity Commission and OSCR
  • Manage financial functions and statutory reporting of Plantlife's trading company 'Plantlife Trading', serving as a Company Secretary while the company is dormant

3. HR
  • Ensure monthly pay roll fulfilment and management Plantlife's pension arrangements to be compliant with all statutory requirements

4. IT, Facilities and H&S - (Note -The main purpose of this role is financial. IT, facilities and HR responsibilities are delivered through line management. Candidates who are well suited to the financial aspects of the role but with limited experience/aptitude for this topics should still apply.)
  • Manage the staff responsible for:

- making sure all aspects of IT, communications, data etc are fit for purpose, secure, compliant with regulations and offer value for money and that staff have adequate IT training and services to function effectively
  • managing Plantlife facilities and services that are fit for purpose and offer value for money
  • supporting the CEO to ensure that H&S policies and practices mean that all staff, contractors and volunteers can work without risk of harm.

  • Manage a small team of staff and take responsibility for their performance and development and ensure 3rd part suppliers/consultants provide effective and efficient services
  • Contribute to the overall management of Plantlife as a member of the Management Group.
