As an Electronic Materials Components Engineer within a leading automotive company in the West Midlands you will be responsible for the continued development and implementation of component technology within global Electronics.

This person will be required to look into construction of electronics components and break them down to qualify liability aspects of the components, look at materials and analyse components inside. This is very much a electronic component supplier development engineer type role, you will provide technical guidance to a cross functional team.

  • Evaluate new component packaging technology including device/package qualification and supplier assessment to ensure high quality products
  • Lead various global objectives including environmental material impact on electronics and provide direction to the organization on international materials compliance.
  • Engage with Electronics Engineering product development teams located across all regions, Electronic manufacturing plants and supply base to provide direction and solutions pertaining to materials used in electronic manufacturing processes and assemblies.
  • Provide technical support in solving quality/reliability issues of electronic components, implementing lessons learned, best practices

Your profile as Electronic Materials Components Engineer :
  • Degree in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar
  • Long-term working experience in electronic component packaging / electronic component assembly or similar field, ideally from the Automotive industry
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to dissect complex issues, analyze data, and draw insights to make informed decisions
  • Fluent English; other language skills are welcomed
  • Central team supporting all product development activities from the different Electronic product lines (Electronic Braking, Steering, ADAS)
  • Global, interdisciplinary team of 6 people, one colleague in Shirley; hiring manager/line manager is located in the U.S.

Interfaces with other departments/customers:

·Interface with HW teams from different product lines à support internal customers

·Interface with manufacturing plants

·Work closely with suppliers

Responsibilities can be divided into three main parts:
  • Working with suppliers is an important part of the role: check supplier quality before we purchase electronic components from them, negotiate changes with them if necessary
  • Provide solutions regarding material selection and in case of lacking functionality; interface with plants regarding the Manufacturing requirements in this context because of restraints to component selection
  • Materials Compliance: Be aware of external body regulations which may ban material from use and identify which impact the use of the materials may have on the organization under these circumstances

  • Educational background: Materials Science or Electronics Engineering
  • Experience in electronic component packaging, component manufacturing/assembly, for example within component quality and reliability, or for material properties
  • Good communication skills / being able to easily liaise with others
  • Analytical mind, planning and organizational skills
