We are looking to recruit Staff Nurses to the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit. We are a dynamic team of over 80 nurses, who are proud to have received the Award of 'Team of the Year' in 2015 for the OUH Foundation Trust. We are a friendly and forward thinking team with a strong commitment to professional development who actively demonstrate the Trust Values. We know the importance of providing exceptional patient care in a fast-paced, vibrant environment. We are looking to recruit nurses with critical care experience or nurses with a desire to develop a career in critical care. We will commit to provide ongoing education and developmental support through our team structure and experienced educators.

Opportunities exist for both newly qualified and experienced staff. You will receive a tailor made supernumerary period after discussion with your team lead and the education lead, depending on your previous experience and development needs. In addition there is a Preceptorship Programme in place within the Trust. You will be given the National Critical Care competencies and the training and education we provide is designed to help you achieve these. You will be given study leave to attend our newly redesigned Critical Care Orientation Programme during the first 6 months working on the unit. This programme includes RAID training and a Tracheostomy study day, as well as simulation sessions. There are well evaluated, in-house Neuroscience Education Training Schedule (NETS) days to help you further develop your specialist neuroscience knowledge and skills. There are also other areas for development and for formal education, such as the mentor course and post-graduate specialist courses. We also have lunchtime teaching to inform staff of changes to practice or clinical governance feedback. Opportunities for other development also exist, according to your personal development plan and your specific areas of interest, such as becoming part of an active link nurse team. These opportunities will help support your re validation requirements for the NMC.

The Neuroscience ITU is a busy Multi-Trauma critical care centre located in the purpose built facility at the Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust, based at the John Radcliffe site. It comprises of 13 beds providing specialist services for neurosciences, neurology and trauma patients. The case mix is varied caring for patients requiring level 2 and level 3 support, with a mix of emergency and complex elective cases.

In order to work with us, you need to be energetic, self-motivated and have a genuine passion for delivering compassionate nursing and high quality care to the most vulnerable and their families. You will need to be highly motivated, have good communication skills and evidence of working within an acute clinical area would be advantageous. We request that you have completed a Medicine's Management package that includes Intravenous Administration.
