We welcome enthusiastic flexible people who are willing to support one another across the whole portfolio, to ensure cover is available during holidays, training etc. Weekend working will be a regular requirement in this role. M&VWAs are keyholders with responsibility for deactivating and activating security alarms on opening and closing. You will supervise volunteers and assist with the management of the volunteer rota.

This role is part time, hourly paid, fixed term role. We are looking for a flexible person to help cover day's off and annual leave during the busy summer period and beyond.

A full Driving Licence and your own vehicle are a requirement of this role.

Interview date 25th June 2019
What it's like to work here
You'll be based at one of these four properties, Hardy's Cottage, the birthplace ofThomas Hardy; the Visitor Centre for Hardy's Birthplace; Max Gate, Hardy's home from 1885; or Lawrence of Arabia's retreat, Clouds Hill near Bovington.

Whilst Membership & Visitor Welcome Assistants work mainly at one property, they will learn about all the properties in the portfolio and be able to cover any reception point to support in any absence. Opening time in the core season is 7 days-a-week, 11am to 5pm, between 1 March and 31 October with reduced opening in the winter when Clouds Hill is closed.
What you'll be doing
As the largest conservation charity in Europe we work hard to raise funds, so that we can continue to care for all the heritage in our trust. Visitors are a vital part of what we do, so you'll be responsible for ensuring that you provide an excellent service to all our visitors, every day.

You'll be asked to confidently sell membership and gift aid on entry, as well as work to our sales targets. You'll also be responsible for answering queries and making sure visitors can find everything they need for their visit. When interacting with our customers, you'll inform them of the amazing work we are doing and what their money is funding, promoting local projects or our national strategy.

You'll help with the opening and closing of houses and the presentation of visitor routes. You'll be conscientious and take pride in looking after the daily operation and presentation of the place you work each day. At Hardy's Cottage, Max Gate and Clouds Hill we unlock the house, lay and light the fires, complete daily cleaning of the houses, toilets and small catering areas and ensure retail stock is well-presented. You'll support the Visitor Experience Officer with visitor flow, activities and events. You may be the sole member of staff at a property supporting volunteers and visitors through the day and passing any issues to the appropriate Manager. Immediate support is available by telephone from a senior member of staff acting as Duty Manager.
