Virologist - Due to an exciting programme of new product development an opportunity exists for a Microbiologist with strong virology skills and experience of working within a commercial research environment to join a growing in-house R & D team at GAMA Healthcare; a cutting-edge, award-winning global organisation with offices in the UK, Australia and China.

Having recently expanded the laboratory capabilities GAMA Healthcare will be incorporating virology efficacy testing in order to analyse products in-house against a variety of viruses. As such the successful candidate will have previous experience in developing and maintaining a range of microorganism stocks in order to conduct an array of EN standard tests. Working at the cutting edge of the new product development lifecycle this exciting and dynamic research-based role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to work collaboratively with the wider research team on a daily basis.

  • Develop and maintain a range of microorganism stocks viruses (enveloped and non-enveloped).
  • Develop and maintain cell cultures for virucidal propagation and standard tests performance.
  • Perform bacteriology or other microbiological tests in support of the microbiology laboratory.
  • Develop, conduct and establish a range of EN standard tests and ASTM methods for broad-spectrum microorganisms, along with validations in relation to regulatory and research requirements.
  • Develop in-house testing capabilities and reduce turnaround times where possible.
  • Analyse, interpret and report all results and where necessary prepare reports for manuscripts or publications.
  • Identify new opportunities within microbiology and feedback into product/project development across the R&D platform to maintain a multi-disciplinary approach to research.
  • Innovate and develop research for GAMA Healthcare projects.
  • Work in compliance with ISO accreditations, namely ISO 17025 and maintain effective quality management systems.
  • Effective support and input in the ELN and LIMS.
  • Support R&D functions.

Skills & Experience:
  • Virology experience. Virus propagation and infection
  • Experience of performing antimicrobial testing using standard methods
  • Cell culture, maintenance and propagation
  • Virology stock maintenance
  • Biocidal testing experience of EN and ASTM standards
  • Heavy workload organisation
  • Thorough understanding of laboratory functions.
