Design Engineer

The company designs, manufactures and installs radiation shielding and other products in the nuclear, medical and other markets.

Calder is also the UK's leading specialist in lead engineering, and in addition one of the UK's leading building materials suppliers, delivering lead sheet and a wide range of ancillary products to builders' merchants nationwide.

What will this role of Design Engineer entail?

As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the further development of a design department. Your role will involve developing bespoke and amending existing mechanical design solutions and manufacturing drawings based on client specifications. Your duties will include, although will not be limited to:
  • Planning and estimating for design and drawing
  • Producing detailed manufacturing drawings and BOM's using 3D SolidWorks and 2D AutoCAD
  • Identifying, co-ordinating and liaising with structural / electrical engineers and design suppliers, ensuring full compliance with British Standards
  • Assisting new product development concepts

What will I need to be considered for this Design Engineer vacancy?
  • Extensive design experience including use of weldments and sheet metal design within SolidWorks
  • A strong background in mechanical engineering, along with experience of detailing manufacturing drawings
  • Experience of 2D CAD Design and Drawing
  • Experience working to BS8888 (formerly BS308)
  • Experience ensuring designs produced comply with the relevant British Standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

What will I receive in return?

As the Design Engineer, you'll receive a salary of in the region of £30,000 with the level dependent on experience, plus a range of additional benefits including 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, employer contributory pension scheme following successful probation period, healthcare cash plan, cycle to work and childcare voucher schemes, and free car parking.

Contract: Option to choose a permanent or fixed term contract at the outset, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 8:30am to 5pm.

Location: Chester (Cheshire)
