As a member of the Group Finance team you will assist with both supporting and maintaining the finance systems as well as day-to-day operational tasks to help deliver the team objectives. You will lead on the improvement of the finance systems and help see those improvements through to fruition, in terms of proposing, specifying, testing and supporting new initiatives and projects. You will be involved in planning, blueprinting, testing and implementing major changes and updates to key systems used by the Group. Working within a global function you will be in contact with overseas offices on a regular basis interfacing with dispersed teams to ensure their system needs are met.

Main Duties

  • As the lead of the systems accounting team you will be working closely with financial control, commercial finance, business intelligence, IT, operations and supply chain teams, to include, but not be limited to:
  • Management of the Group's Finance systems, including but not limited to: SAP, Enterprise reporting cube, renewal base cube, Cognos planning
  • Build a detailed knowledge of the systems that make up the reporting environment and advise on the impact of changes. You will be the in-function subject matter expert on all finance systems
  • Understanding and aiding all aspects of the use of the finance systems - including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, fixed assets and general ledger accounting, CRM and BI reporting
  • Month-end accounting; including creation of monthly reports required by management, monitoring system behaviour and key posting processes and handling other global accounting transactions
  • Maintenance of finance systems including master data, query resolution, error reporting to an internal team of developers and in some cases an external support provider
  • Systems development project management and review
  • Work on projects; help influence decisions on improvements and controls within the finance systems and upstream and downstream systems
  • Taking an active role in specifying, testing and supporting new initiatives such as the development of new processes and internal controls or system enhancements
  • Provide support to finance teams in all locations, including day to day query resolution and supporting the month end close process
  • Input ideas to, and help maintain, other systems (or aspects of them),
  • Own the finance intranet site
  • Assist regional financial controllers with internal controls and queries
  • Prepare required ad-hoc and regular reports on key activities
  • Assist with external and internal audit queries where needed
  • The role holder will work very closely with the IT development team in connection with enhancements to the finance systems. The role holder will be the primary point of contact within Finance for the IT department

Skills & Experience

  • Being a qualified accountant would be highly beneficial
  • Detailed knowledge of SAP and a BI/DW environment
  • Highly IT literate
  • Experience of a financial accounting and reporting environment
  • Excellent communication skills / inter-personal skills and influencing skills
  • Ability to work closely with IT and third-party suppliers
  • Strong excel and data analysis skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple work streams and prioritise accordingly
  • Self-motivated and wishing to make a difference, with a track record of achievements
  • Able to build good working relationships within and outside of the department, including with overseas colleagues
