The UK&I business converts more than half of its sterling revenues of c£5bn into foreign currency to pay for jet fuel, cruise fuel, aircraft costs, landing and handling fees, overflying and hotel accommodation costs amongst others. It also potentially carries a jet and cruise fuel commodity risk on over 900kmT or $0.6bn of jet and cruise fuel. The business therefore creates a significant commodity and FX rate risk that needs to be actively managed, controlled and reported on a regular basis, to avoid foreign exchange exposures that can have a material impact on the UK&I business and ultimately the group.
What you will be doingThe Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the capture, control, analysis and reporting of all cash related activities, be that from a hedging, accounting or cash management perspective. Without active and accurate cash flow forecasting, reporting and control, the business is prone to sub-optimal cash positions at group level, foreign exchange exposures and accounting risk from inaccurate cash flow forecasts and control weaknesses if the different measures of cash are not reconciled. To maintain flexibility and to foster transfer of skills and development opportunities, more than one individual may hold the position of Financial Analyst. The main focus of this role includes but is not limited to the following:Consolidation and validation of operating currency cash flow and fuel volume forecasts• Consolidation of monthly operating cash flow forecast submissions from various business units, which are used as the basis of foreign exchange hedging positions• Comparison of month on month movements in forecast seasonal cash flows, validating movements with the business• Analysis of actuals vs. forecast currency cash flows, following up material variances between different scenarios with the business units to ultimately to drive improved FX cash flow forecasting• Actualisation of the operational cash flow forecasts in currency and GBP equivalent to improve the accuracy of cash flow forecasts and ultimately hedging positions• Provide previous month cash actuals and work with the business units to improve accuracy• Preparation of slides for the Cash Committee summarising latest operating cash flow forecast position, including commentary on movements• Development of new procedures following implementation of SAPPreparation of accurate hedging data and exposure analysis• Preparation of the weekly fuel and FX report for the weekly UK&I Hedge Committee• Preparation of accurate fuel and FX orders for trading by Group Treasury• Update and reconcile forecast and hedging changes using Essbase• Provide analysis to Group Treasury to support hedge accounting status• Develop the working relationship between UKI and Group Treasuries to improve the capture and reporting of hedging and forecast cash flow data.Ad hoc tasks• Other ad hoc duties appropriate to a Financial Analyst as requiredKey relationships (Internal & external contacts):• Finance Managers / Controllers within the UK&I business units (Airline, Tour Ops)• Shared Service Centre colleagues (AP. What we are looking forRelevant experience in the finance department of a large company (>£1bn t/o p.a), supported by CIMA or ACCA studies• Highly systems literate with the ability to assimilate relatively large volumes of complex data and to present in a clear and concise way• Proven experience of working with colleagues from other teams to resolve complex issues or to improve a process• Highly numerate and analytical, able to quickly identify incomplete or inaccurate data• Deadline driven and able to demonstrate ability to work under pressure• Desire and capability to progress within Cash & Treasury and beyond• Previous roles focusing on cash and cash flow reporting highly desirable but not essential
