We are looking for experienced Software Developers to join our Digital Services team in Nottingham be involved in new and exciting projects, which are key to DVSA becoming a truly digital enabled organisation. The workload is varied and interesting, and you will have opportunities to transform your knowledge, experience and ideas into the design and implementation of a new software development service.

This will be a key role in the design, build, support, implementation and improvement of digital services, products and platforms across DVSA. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team using Agile delivery methodologies, delivering solutions that meet user needs. For this role you will be committed to quality and will promote quality software engineering techniques within the team, such as code review, design review, reusability of code, refactoring, automated testing and use of standards.

Role responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Building digital services and software solutions to serve a variety of user needs, and complying with the Digital by Default service standard
• Building and implementing APIs for internal and external use
• Creating a culture of collaboration between development teams and business partners to establish and enable accelerated delivery models
• Being involved in the wider development community of interest, identifying good practices we can adopt and sharing our experiences within the team and to external stakeholders
• Taking part in 2nd-line support of applications and platforms, and supervising individual development resources in geographically diverse locations through online and other channels
• Analysis of complex technical problems in collaboration with user research & data analysis, making appropriate recommendations to senior stakeholders, and creating solutions

About you

You will be needing to be able to work from requirements or high-level design without the need for direct supervision, and will be responsible for the development and delivery of well-designed and executed software and data management solutions, using Agile methodologies. Do you have a passion for coaching, supporting and mentoring individual and apprentice developers.? To thrive in this role, you will have a real passion for coding, always being curious and keen to learn and develop further. You are someone who loves to be given full autonomy in their role but also relishes working collaboratively in a close-knit team environment, being a key team-player. You are enthusiastic and thorough with your work, enjoying the challenges of problem solving whilst taking full accountability of decisions made and work produced.

It would be great if you already had a recognised IT qualification/certification, although this is not essential. Going forward we are committed to encouraging and enabling our staff to develop in and above their role and will support you in undertaking further development opportunities/qualifications.
