Our client is seeking a cost accountant from a manufacturing background

Your new company
An £80mil T/O growing company is seeking a cost accountant to support the operations and finance team.

Your new role
This is an exciting new role for a candidate who has come from a manufacturing background. A key part of the role will be to identify and drive process improvements to enable improved accuracy of inventory accounts. The role will also support the FP&A team in providing insightful analysis of manufacturing variances vs. budget.

The main responsibilities are:-
  • Maintaining, reviewing and analysing the standard costs of production.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the standard cost budget and calculation of overhead absorption rates
  • Providing analysis of cost and manufacturing variances
  • Working with the manufacturing team to ensure inventory records are accurately maintained, including monitoring of cycle counts and cycle count adjustments
  • Playing a key role in the annual full inventory count, ensuring count variances are investigated and understood
  • Evaluating inventory provisions and ensuring adequate provisions are maintained
  • Working with the operations team to ensure that slow moving inventory lines are addressed.
  • Supporting the manufacturing team in evaluating inventory reduction initiatives.
  • Assisting in improvements to internal controls related to inventory, ensuring compliance with applicable Sarbanes Oxley controls.
  • Managing the month end close for inventory
  • Assisting with statutory audit preparation and dealing with auditor queries.

What you'll need to succeed
  • Previous proven cost accounting experience within a manufacturing business is essential
  • CIMA/ACA/ACCA qualified
  • P/QUAL / QBE would also be considered with the relevant manufacturing experience
  • Strong MS Excel skills
  • Change oriented - strong desire to bring about continuous improvements to systems and processes
  • QAD and/or SAP experience desirable
