Giving our customers an amazing experience online. That's when it hits home!

As an IS team we are setting out to be more digitally focussed, using the latest technologies, whilst ensuring that our customers are at the heart of everything we do. Our strategy is set, our direction is clear. What comes next is to apply our skills and experience through brilliant team work to innovate, design, and implement systems that deliver real business value.

We've got an excellent team foundation to build upon as our technical portfolio develops and expands; that's where you come in. What makes us No. 27 in the UK's Best Large Places to Work and gives us Investors in People Gold Standard? It's our brilliant people and culture!

We have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our DevOps Engineer. You'll work with our other DevOps Engineers to create, maintain and own infrastructure both in Microsoft Azure and our on-premises environment; using tools like Terraform and Ansible to make immutable resources. You'll be responsible for supporting our microservice application architecture in our two container orchestration platforms, DC/OS and Kubernetes. Working alongside the rest of the Digital Development team, you'll create, maintain and own our CI/CD pipelines in Gitlab; allowing for the testing and deploying of our services in an automated manner. You will also actively drive continuous improvement within our Digital Development processes, whilst being a key player within our agile teams.

About our team

You'll be working alongside our fabulous team who are passionate about building and delivering innovative Digital solutions using the latest technologies. To us were not just a team, we're a 'work family'. Our manager is Taya, who has a passion for the gym, food and travel and ran the hottest ever recorded London Marathon last year. There are 9 of us in the team and we don't just love to support our customers, we're there for each other too! The Digital Development team is currently made up of developers, DevOps, UX and a Scrum Master. We work closely with our testers and product owners to form our Scrum teams.

A bit about you

As a DevOps Engineer, you'll have a wide range of general computing skills including an understanding of networking, security and Linux server administration. You will be aware of, and have used a significant number of tools and technologies such as source control, continuous integration/deployment, containers/container orchestration and infrastructure automation.

You'll have a strong understanding of Microsoft Azure and its resources, especially Virtual Machines, Virtual Machine Scale Sets, App Services/Web Apps, Virtual Networks, Network Security Groups and Application Gateways.

Writing scripts will come naturally to you, and you'll be used to automating tasks across infrastructure and development platforms. You'll have a couple of scripting/programming languages that you're comfortable writing such scripts in, and you'll be able to read the existing task code base which is written in Bash and PowerShell. Ideally, you'll also have experience using third party tools like Terraform and Ansible.

Communication is key and you will have experience working with myriad types of development colleagues, managing and orchestrating releases and communicating their status to relevant stakeholders. You will be aware that as a DevOps Engineer, many stakeholders - developers, customers and other business groups - will all be your customers, and that a customer-focused approach is hugely important.

Working hours

Here at Home Group we believe flexibility works both ways. Our focus is on getting the job done, not your working hours! It's important to us that you're in the office so we can work collaboratively and share best practices amongst the team. However there will be times, when you might work from home to concentrate on a particular piece of work. Throughout it's the team's unwritten rule that you attend the important appointments in life, be it your child's school play, your partner's graduation, or to get your new fridge delivered. You can elect to fit these around your working day or use your flexi to take the time off. You will support our out of hours on call system and you will be paid as part of that within this role.
