Client Details

A market leading, global, interconnect specialist, my client is a highly successful precision engineering group who's site near Canterbury employs c230 people and specialises in the design and manufacture of a diverse range of connectors and interconnect products for a highly demanding customer base in numerous Industrial sectors. Poised for further growth, and investment, they are now seeking to recruit a Machine Shop Production Manager who will help deliver unrivalled levels of excellence.


Adherence to production schedules to meet OTIF targets.

Identifying Continuous Improvement initiatives and, via department team leaders, supporting and driving through their implementation as appropriate.

Responsible for managing budgets, including overhead and labour spend to set forecasts.

Manage capacity on an ongoing basis, ensuring sufficient coverage for holiday, sickness and unexpected absence, liaising closely with the Planning Department on any bottlenecks or spare capacity within a rolling four weeks.

Optimise machine loading, similar component grouping, set-up and cycle time reduction to maximise efficiency and productivity.

Take responsibility for health, safety and the environment and others who may be affected by work activities. Manage and control all COSHH and Risk Assessments within the department.

Conducting regular reviews of NRFT and scrap data with the Quality department to ensure that corrective and preventative actions are implemented as required.

Maintaining records of employee skills and training in accordance with Company policies and procedures, and implementing any training and development requirements to increase flexibility of personnel within the Department.

Manage employee performance, including attendance, discipline and grievance issues taking appropriate action where necessary in consultation with HR.

Actively participate in recruitment of staff and carry out induction training for all new staff and transferred employees as required.

Deputising for the Production Manager as and when required.


HND or HNC level in Mechanical Engineering

Supervisory experience gained through certification and professional application

Previous leadership in precision machining environment

Specific experience of CNC turning centres and sliding head machines.

Leading CI and Lean Manufacturing activities, including TPM and 5C.

MRP systems knowledge

Served a recognised engineering apprenticeship.

Recognised qualification in management.

Job Offer

£40,000 - £45,000 (dependent on experience)

Relocation package if required
