Do you have a passion for all things automotive and would like to join an industry leader in the field of automotive research? Are you a senior engineer with proven success implementing processes and applying engineering principles?

Our research over the past 50 years has led to significant shifts within the automotive industry, helping the motor insurance industry understand underwriting risk, controlling their claim costs and informing future strategies. With the pace of technology advancements accelerating, our ability to efficiently and effectively deliver meaningful cost-effective research is critical. The Engineering Manager will build upon our research heritage, driving diversity and efficiency into our research output ensuring process centric approach to delivering continued value to the motor insurance and automotive industries.

This is a management position that would suit a senior engineer with experience of leading and coaching teams.

As the Engineering Manager your responsibilities will involve:
  • Establishing, developing and maintaining a process centric, projects driven approach to engineering research at Thatcham Research
  • Identifying, developing and maintaining the tools required to robustly govern the quality of engineering research, both in approach and output
  • Managing the Advanced Repair research team and projects to deliver consistent, effective and focused output with efficient use of the available resource
  • Developing capability within the Advanced Repair research team to enable continuous improvement in process-based research delivery
  • Engaging with cross company stakeholders to collaboratively ensure a consistent approach to research
  • Identifying clear financial controls across research projects to ensure value

As the Engineering Manager your skills and experience will include:
  • Educated to degree level in an engineering or science discipline
  • Commissioning, planning and undertaking of engineering projects
  • Developing, implementing and managing processes and systems within an engineering or scientific environment
  • Communicating engineering and/or research outputs to multiple external stakeholders, understanding and respecting their respective positions, motivations and sensitivities
  • Operational management of teams, including the mentoring and development of staff
  • Speaking and presenting to groups of people, adapting the message according to the audience
  • Management responsibility for the planning and utilisation of a working budget

What we're looking for in you:

You are an excellent communicator with the ability to understand and analyse complex technical information. Your engaging interpersonal skills enable you to build strong business relationships, whilst your supportive approach effectively coaches and motivates those around you. You have a strategic mindset and are able to appropriately plan for the future accounting for both external and internal factors.

Salary: From £61,000, dependent on skills and experience. In addition, we offer a competitive benefits package which includes a 10% non-contributory pension, annual bonus, healthcare and car allowance.

Location: Thatcham, Berkshire

Hours: 8.30 - 16:30 Monday - Thursday, 8.30am - 15:45 Fridays
