Finance Manager - Specialist Plant Hire Business

Salary c£45-55k + Benefits

My client manages a fleet of specialist vehicles. These can be operated, hired or bought. They are all available on a short or long term basis. They have a national hire desk which supports their customers' needs nationwide. Through this service they can deliver a comprehensive solution; a one stop shop for their client's entire plant and/or plant hire needs.

As a result of further growth, with a new Depot in the pipeline, they now require a Finance Manager with the ability and desire to progress to Finance Director. You will report to the MD and be based in Bedfordshire at their offices.

They are a profitable and established business. They are currently seeking an experienced accountant to join them as Finance Manager to assist the existing management team in managing the company's financial affairs. As part of the Senior Management Team you will also be contributing to the business planning, forecasting and presenting various financial scenarios. You will also be assisted by other members of the accounts team.

Key tasks and responsibilities

·Managing the production of monthly management accounting information for internal and external use. Managing the development of these systems and processes. Ensuring that operational colleagues receive and understand financial information provided.

·Management of the production of the annual statutory accounts to completion and finalisation of its audit and reports.

·Responsibility for the integrity and security of data and information held on the Finance System and the coordination of upgrades to the system.

·Completion of VAT and CIS returns

·Management of working capital

·Management of Factoring arrangements and Bank Funding

·Coordination of relationships with internal and external stakeholders

·Completion of annual budgets and re-forecasts where necessary

·Assisting in the development of business financial processes and ensuring they are regularly maintained.

·Acting as company secretary and completion of all associated duties

·Proactively seeking to maintain and improve all financial controls, ensuring the processes are fully documented, frequently reviewed and updated and communicated as appropriate.

·Undertaking any other duties relevant to the key tasks and responsibilities identified by the Managing director

Person specification


Experience of working as a Management Accountant in the construction industry, plant hire sector experience would be an added advantage

Preparation of regular management accounts, including variance analysis for a variety of audiences

Statutory accounts production

Experience of development of Finance Systems

Competent in using Accounting Software packages and Microsoft office applications, ideally Sage

A recognised CCAB qualification with post qualification experience


Strong analytical skills and an ability to input and interpret complex data

Ability to deal with a variety of daily issues and prioritise work

Ability to review, evaluate and where necessary tidy up accounts practices and procedures, flexible thinking mentality essential

Manage and control c20,000 transactions each month c£150k sales per week, c£7m turnover


Strong communication skills both orally and in writing

Ability to assist non-financial managers

Able to train, develop and mentor other members of the team using accounts software

Experience of persuading, influencing and aiding others in decision making and implementing change

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent, 40 hours per week
