Junior Underwriter

Think Property Finance
Kennington, UK
15 Apr 2019
23 May 2019
Contract Type
Full Time
Role Description
This is a particularly exciting time to join us, as you have an opportunity to be a key part of our growth, and to progress quickly in the company as we grow. These are normally the benefits you would expect to see in joining a start-up, but because of our sustainable growth to date, the typical risks of joining a start-up are far lower with us.

What the role will involve

As Junior Underwriter, you will be primarily responsible for handling loan enquiries from offer to completion, carrying out all underwriting on simple cases, and assisting in underwriting on complex cases. This will include:
  • Managing broker and client communications after handover of cases from our BDMs
  • Liaising with surveyors to book in as required, handling any follow ups as needed
  • Liaising with solicitors to ensure a smooth conveyancing process
  • Assessing the security's value and/or development project viability
  • Assessing borrower risk, including their background, asset position, and credit position
  • Assessing the report on title, as well as any other case-relevant legal matters
  • Creating investment summaries and liaising with our co-investors on loans you have handled
  • Assisting with any arrears or default cases as required

If and where there are areas of your role where you do not have experience, we will provide in-depth training to get you up to speed.

What we're looking for in a candidate

Whilst experience is important, we are much more interested in your attitude and talent, than whether you have 5 years' experience in underwriting. Therefore, we are looking for a candidate that:
  • Has at least 1 year's experience in an underwriting or risk analysis role
  • Has experience working for a lending company (preferred, but not essential)
  • Is teachable and can pick up new concepts quickly
  • Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Has good time management skills
  • Is an experienced user of the Microsoft Office suite (and, preferably, the Apple iWork suite)
  • Is ambitious, proactive, and hungry to progress within the company

What we can offer you

  • The job will be for 40 hours per week with a starting salary of £30,000-40,000 (depending on experience)
  • A generous bonus package
  • In depth training
  • The opportunity to work in a dynamic, exciting business
  • The chance to progress within the company as it grows
  • You will be based at our offices in Kennington, except on days you have to travel to attend networking events.
