Software Engineer III - PHP / Full Stack - Cardiff

SUMMARY
  • LexisNexis Risk Solutions is seeking a full stack Software Engineer with a strong background in PHP to join our Cardiff-based development teams

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • We will help you learn how to use our big data platform - HPCC - through a combination of training courses, self-learning and peer support
  • Contributing to the effective design of new features and solutions
  • Developing and delivering features across the full stack (including use of modern PHP frameworks, front-end frameworks, HPCC and other tools as required to deliver a feature)
  • Contributing to the quality assurance effort, particularly through use of test automation tools (such as Cucumber) and Continuous Integration tools (such as Jenkins)
  • Providing technical leadership to our cross-functional agile product development teams
  • Working closely with the product owner and project management to deliver timely products and enhancements
  • Mentoring others in the immediate and wider teams - we are continually looking to help our team develop

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
  • Passionate collaborator with a focus on what is best for the team (both immediate and the wider group)
  • Strong and enthusiastic technologist, able to demonstrate a broad technical knowledge
  • Strong PHP development skills using modern PHP frameworks, grounded in PHP-FIG PSRs
  • Working experience in Kanban or Scrum (or in lieu of this, clear understanding of the methodologies and enthusiasm to be part of such a team)
  • Good understanding of modern development Build, Test and Deployment pipelines
  • Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Clear focus on the customer, both internal and external
  • A good understanding of SOA and API concepts, including security
  • A strong working knowledge of application development tools and methodologies

DESIRABLE SKILLS
  • Experience of querying distributed data platforms and data warehouses
  • Experience of TDD for contributing to automated test packs
  • Active participation in the development community
  • Experience of MV* front-end frameworks
